Lumberton, Texas is a small town located in Webb County, Texas. The population was 1,814 as of the 2010 census. It has been home to gunsmiths and dealers since the early 1800s. The first guns made here were pistols designed by Captain John Sibley and loaded with ball bearings. By 1851, Lumberton had become a busy center for rifle hunting and target shooting in the area. In 1865, General Ulysses S. Grant arrived in Lumberton on his way to battles at Vicksburg and Missionary Ridge. He stopped at the local gunsmith shop on his way back to Chattanooga. A few years later, Captain James Waco bought the business from its previous owner. Waco renamed it “Waco Arms” and began manufacturing rifles and shotguns there until he sold it to Joseph Pogue in 1915. Pogue continued making guns here until his death in 1949. In 1950, Lumberton became an incorporated city when it joined the Brazos County district created by state law that year. Gun barrels have been produced here ever since!

However there has been recent growth in jobs for people working in marketing, retail sales (the largest employer being Walmart), light manufacturing (manufacturing aluminum cans), agriculture (livestock production) and health care services including home health aides through Caremark Health Plan Incorporated ().

Logs were brought down from the mountains to be chopped into smaller pieces and transported by wagon to the town's mills where they were turned into furniture and other products. The Battle of San Jacinto took place near Lumberton on November 26, 1835; it remains one of the most infamous battles in Texas history. During that battle between Mexican forces under Santa Anna and Texan units under General Sam Houston, more than 200 Texans died including many who perished as result ofcombat within minutes of each other at a location called Slaughter Hill. Shortly thereafter, San Jacinto became part of Mexico after Mexico's victory over US forces in that battle.
