Lufkin is a small town in Texas and home to the Lufkin Gun Museum. The museum was founded in 1965 by then-Mayor Forrest Robinson. The museum has collection of over 1,000 firearms from around the world. The Lufkin Gun Museum is open daily 9am to 5pm, except holidays. Admission is free for all visitors. The company changed its name to Winchester Incorporated in 1903. Despite this challenge, oil production continues to play an important role in local economy through services such as road maintenance and contract manufacturing; while shipbuilding remains one of Lufkin's mainstays with two major companies – Navistar Marine Corporation and Caterpillar Incorporated – both based here since the 1970s providing many thousands jobs across numerous sectors including transportation, engineering and construction alone.
