After hostilities ended, many Japanese-Americans who had been living in Lubbock returned home and formed their own community called Koreatown inside of downtown while other Japanese-American veterans continued to live within the city limits after they were released from incarceration at Fort Worth Army Air Field near Dallas. Today’s economy is driven by heavy industry including telecommunications companies such as AT&T and T-Mobile as well as construction companies such as Humble Oil Company and Seagram Distilling Company among others; however, much of this activity has shifted away from downtown towards Decatur Boulevard which contains many large office buildings vacated by light industrial tenants over the past few years.
