The Lubbock Rifle Club was founded in 1892. The first rifle club in the Lone Star State met at the home of John Fenton in 1892. The first meeting was held to discuss rifles and pistols for protection against Indians. A membership card was issued to each individual and it is still a requirement for membership today. In 1896, the club moved from Fenton’s home to an old cotton gin on East Seventh Street in downtown Lubbock. There were only 10 members at that time and we had to meet outside to attend meetings due to the crowded conditions inside the gin. In 1899, we moved again, this time to an old bank building on Broadway near Main Street. We met there every other Thursday morning until 1912 when we disbanded because of World War 1 which forced us out of town for 2 years! After returning, we met at a hotel on West Third Street before finally moving back into our original building on East Seventh Street where we continue today!
Lubbock is a city in Texas, located in the Midwestern United States. The population was 753,821 at the 2010 census. It is the largest city in Chihuahua and one of its eight municipalities. Lubbock is bordered by Midland to the south, Odessa to the east, and Haskell County to the north. The first Europeans to visit what is now Lubbock were French colonists in 1778. French traders had begun trading with Native Americans here as early as 1606 when Jacques Marquette explored this area from Mexico City on his way back from exploring North America. In 1836, John Wesley Powell discovered oil near here while exploring for oil resources in nearby Eagle Ford Field; this led to Lubbock's incorporation as a city on December 1, 1887. The town site was chosen because it would be between two major rivers: East Fork Rio Grande and West Fork Brazos River. A post office was established at present-day Lubbock on November 15, 1892; it became an incorporated city on October 9 of that year. The Chihuahuan Railroad reached these parts of Texas in 1911 and began serving Lubbock within one year; however, it wasn't until 1915 that a cotton gin was built here and starting commercial production of cotton products began (the first such plant west of Memphis). During World War II, much production took place at nearby Anadarko Arsenal which produced munitions including artillery shells used against Japan during World War II In 1957–58 the University of Texas System opened its new main campus adjacent to downtown Lubbocks downtown area which provided new job opportunities for many people who had been living outside the city limits since before Dallas/Fort Worth annexed most of Texarkana county into their metropolitan area in 1961 In 1990 UNL Libraries moved from Garland across Cypress Street into what is now known as "The Arts District" just east of Main Street which made up part of UT Arlington's originalcampus . The old library building still stands there today(but witholding :( )

Lubbock was founded in 1879 by John Peter Crouch and became a municipally-governed city in 1912. The Lubbock Municipal Airport was opened in 1923 and is still in use today.
