Lubbock is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas, located in eastern Price County. The population was 9,539 at the 2010 census. Lubbock's name comes from the Limestone Creek that flows through it and gave its name to the nearby limestone hills. Some claim that Lubbock was named for a Mexican Missions Indian chief, "Lobos" (a mountain). The first settler in what is now Lubbock County was George A. Brazelton, who arrived on horseback in 1872. He founded a trading post near present-day Midland and named it Brazelton Springs after himself and his brother-in-law, John Brazelton Sr.. AfterTexas became an American state in 1912, Boggs moved his business to Dodge City because he could not find any landowners willing to sell him land east of the Red River watershed. In 1916, he sold his holdings to Waco businessmen George Pritchard and Harry Hinson for $2 million dollars which made him one of the largest men in Texas at that time. In 1920, Waco businessman Tom Pickens bought Boggs' lands and developed them into what is now Lubbocks downtown area – including Midland Mall – as well as other areas around town such as White Sands Lake Park and Springdale Center mall. In 1951, Jerald Charles Gibbs purchased much of this property from Pickens for $10 million dollars which made him one of Lubbock's most successful entrepreneurs during its early years. From 1965 until 1991 he served as Mayor of Lubbocks largest city before retiring at age 91 due to health concerns related to diabetes mellitus and heart disease.. Development around Main Street has continued since Gibbs' days with several new restaurants opening up over the years including Acacia BBQ & Pizza (now known as Just Us), Sweetwater Tavern & Brewery (now known as Zona Rosa), Longhorn Steakhouse & Saloon (now known as Four Barrel) among others; making Lubbocks downtown area one of North Texas' most vibrant stages today!

Lubbock quickly grew into a thriving community, and by 1865 it had become the county seat of Cameron County. In 1894, Lubbock was chosen as the site of the first United States Post Office.
