At that time Bedford Avenue ran east-west through what is now downtownLongview while Industrial Boulevard ran north-south across what is now Main Street leading to Oak Cliff on the west side of I-5 near present day University Park Drive on the east side of I-5 near Northwest Highway (Route 69). In 1935 annexation by Garland led to creation of Garland Municipal District #1 with voting rights within city limits; however this authority reverted back to Garland Municipal District #2 upon annexation by Fort Worth in 1941 due to protests from nearby Arlington who claimed they had been ignored during annexation proceedings. At that time Arlington also annexed much of Midland which would later form Tarrant County (population: 134,000 as of2010) making Longview serve as only a ceremonial county seat until 1971 when both Tarrant and Travis Counties were created making Llongway their official county seat once again. The first settlers in what is now Longview were John and Jane Long who arrived from Kentucky on horseback in 1872. They built a log cabin on the banks of the Brazos River. In 1874 they married Anna May Hays and established a farmstead east of present-day Longview on land that had been deeded to them by their fathers. Their three children - Anna May (1875-1975), John (1877-1957) and Mary Louise (1879-1945) - also grew up here and became important members of the community. In 1886 Anna May gave birth to her fourth child, Harry Dean Stanton which would later become United States Senator from Texas; he would die while serving as a US Senator in 1987. In 1914 Alice Crain became one of the first white women to ride an all day stagecoach trip across America when she took part in the Pioneer Women's Tour under direct guidance of then-Governor Burleson Sheppard – who had originated this type of tour as an effort to promote woman's suffrage throughout Texas The tour ended at Fort Worth’s Starplex Theater but Crain continued her journey north via Dallas where she made her final stop before continuing on to Chicago where she voted for women's suffrage there in November 1915. On December 9th 1910 local resident Frank White filed for incorporation as a town with $10 worth of bonds payable within five years or face foreclosure proceedings initiated by Sheriff Hodge &c etc., This application did not receive support from any other citizens until February 11th 1911 when Drusilla Cook registered at longview post office desiring to change her name to “Longview” after visiting Mrs Cook’s sister living near Eldora Kansas City so called because some people thought it looked like Livermore Valley
