In 1850, a sawmill and gristmill were constructed in the town. A post office was established in 1851 and a store Was opened in1853. By 1861, there were 9 businesses in Longview with a population of 100 people. By 1865, there were 11 businesses with a population of 150 people. By 1870, there were 16 businesses with a population of 200 people. In 1872, the first cotton gin was built in LongVIEW and it became operational that year
