In 1957, when Interstate 10 was completed through Dallas-Fort Worth – opening up much of Central Texas – Longview became one of its more important cities within that large metropolitan area. The increase in traffic caused many businesses to relocate or close their doors during this time; however, DowntownLongVIEW has continued to grow since then with many new businesses coming online since then including several restaurants which have been staples on Main Street since day one (e.g., Red Lobster®, Quiznos®, Longhorn Steakhouse®, etc.). Today’s DowntownLongVIEW includes several blocks of high-end shopping areas anchored by two major anchor stores: JCPenney & Co., Macy’s Department Store and Stein Mart® chain store followed by Staples ® Home Stores next door across I-10 from Sears & Roebuck department store just past Beltway 8th Street).
