This company was founded by several entrepreneurs in 1892 and initially produced eyeglasses and contact lenses for civilians and military personnel. OA continued to produce high-quality products until it went out of business in 1907. An other early company in Longview was The American Optics Company (AOC). AOC was founded by two businessmen, George Snedeker and Jacob Weisz, in 1902. At its peak, AOC manufactured more than 2 million eyesight devices per year. However, the company went bankrupt during World War I and ceased production shortly afterwards. By 1915, however, AOC had restarted production with new technology that allowed for sharper images on screen displays than ever before. Longview is a town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,026 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The community of Longview was founded in 1881 by pioneers who arrived from Missouri and Kansas. The name "Longview" was given to it because the first post office in the town was located there on State Road 2 (now US-69), about 10 miles (16 km) east of present-day Longview. By 1886, when Longview incorporated as a village, its population had grown to about 100 people. In 1902, local farmers formed the Longview Water District to provide irrigation for their rice fields and cotton plantations; this organization still exists today as the “LongVIEW Water District” water supply company. In 1916, construction began on what would become one of America's largest concrete blocks – West McNary Dam – which supplied water for Longview and 8 other towns in McLennan County until its completion in 1928. During World War II, Longview became one of several American communities to contribute troops and civilians to lend their support during the war effort; many homes were used as military barracks or training areas. After World War II ended, many factory jobs left LongVIEW while others developed here such as Texaco (later ChevronTexaco). However most residents are still engaged with agriculture or services that help support agriculture such as Feed Our Kids or Brazos Connections Cooperative Extension Service programs that connect students from all over Texas with local farms for agricultural extension work opportunities. Today there are over 1,000 businesses including Barnes & Noble bookstore chain located just outside town limits along IH-10 W between LongVIEW Rd./US-69W and FM 1960 Alt/US 75W., making it one of principal economic engines in the townspeople have long been proud of

By 1930, almost every camera maker had introduced a Leica optics productline that featured both manual focus and electronically adjusted optics. With advances in photoelectric cells, digital technology has made possible widespread availability of advanced reflex cameras without need for AE gear which makes optical accessory history even more interesting.

In 1907, The Lancet published an article called "A New Way To Improve Vision", which included diagrams illustrating how eyeglasses could be used for corrected vision. By 1912, articles were being written about spectacle frames and how they could be used with glasses to improve vision. In 1916, The British Journal of Ophthalmology even mentioned contact lens usage! By the early 1920s, most people were using corrective lenses with their spectacles so that they needed only one set of glasses for all their activities (except studying).
Longview is an unincorporated community in Potter County, Texas, United States. It was founded in 1881 by John H. Long and his wife Sarah A. Long, and named for their home on the banks of the Brazos River. The community grew rapidly following its incorporation as a town, with residents coming from all over to work in the local cotton plantations. The town lost its status as a maintown after World War II when nearby Prairie View A&M University became more established and numerous; however, Longview still retains some importance within the small community because of its proximity to Prairie View A&M University and its role as a cultural center for Potter County.
On July 3, 1836, the Republic of Texas was founded from parts of New Mexico and Mexican Texas. On November 16, 1840, after more than a year of intense fighting, General Sam Houston's army captured Austin and placed the new government there. In 1845 the Republic became an U.S. state.
