A new shopping center and industrial park have been built since 2000 along Interstate 10 near Crossroads Mall adjacent to I-10/287 eastbound exit #235B (exit 403 for Corpus Christi). This $145 million project includes an estimated 2 million square feet (190 m2) of retail space including such anchor stores as Sears & Roebuck and JCPenney; 150 acres (65 ha) of surface parking; 6 restaurants; 3 hotels; 2 medical offices; 4 water systems; 1 school district office; and a civic center that opened in October 2006. Plans call for continued development over time with an ultimate goal to have all aspects of this mixed-use project completed by 2020 or 2030.

Longview is a small town in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,819 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Longview was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1879. The Irish name means "place where the longgrass grows." The first settler in what is now Longview was John Fenton and his family who arrived on horseback from Kentucky in 1879. By 1889 there were twenty-six families living here including four generations of Fenton women – Anna (née McHugh), Maria (née McNaught), Matilda (Matty) and Margaret (Maggie). In 1905, two brothers named James and William Hargrave platted what became Longview on land they had purchased from the Kaufman family east of present day Slaughter Road. They named their new community after General George Washington Irving’s short story “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” which tells the story of a Indian chief who visits a small village during the night and drags all the residents off to live with him in an isolated location until morning when they return to find their homes destroyed. In 1916, Loyd Wickersham started farming here and began to grow corn, wheat and cotton. In 1922 he erected a one-room schoolhouse near present day Slaughter Road for public education purposes; it still stands today as part of Longview Memorial Park. A year later he donated land for a municipal jail which served as both incarceration and courtrooms for many years before it burned down in 1966. By 1930 LongVIEW had grown to over 100 citizens with 7 businesses - 3 general stores, 2 shoe stores, 1 harness store & saddlery store plus 2 restaurant/bars/cafés & 3 dance halls! There were also 4 churches with services being held at various times throughout the year: First Presbyterian Church 1935-39; Methodist Episcopal Church 1938-41; Baptist church 1946; Roman Catholic church 1951-. On November 17th 1930 Union Pacific Railroad built its original line south through this area linking up with other railroads just south of Fort Worth creating what would become known as “the Great Western Rush” reaching out into surrounding counties such as Arlington Heights & Irvington becoming an essential component of American industry during those early years following World War II while providing jobs for locals along the way! Today you can still see some remnants of that railroad heritage like trackage remaining right next to Slaughter Rd just north of IH 35W
