Longview is a small, agricultural town in the border county of Travis County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,752 at the 2010 census. It lies on the Brazos River and is about 12 miles (19 km) east of Austin. The Longview-Bryan Ferry Bridge crossing the Brazos River connects Longview to Bryan, Texas. The town was founded in 1876 by John Hargrave and named after his home village (Langwidge), in Lincolnshire, England. When Hargrave immigrated to America he took with him his English wife and three children: John Purdy Hargrave (1875-1957), Loretta Maynard Hargrave (1877-1964), and Harry A. Hargrave (1879-1963). In 1885 the family moved to what is now Longview when Mr. Hargrive bought 3 acres of land on the south side of what is now Roscoe Boulevard between Second Street and Third Street for $1 per acre ($25 per sq mi). In 1899 they purchased an additional 2/3 acre for $2 per acre ($40 per sq mi). In 1907 George Wernham opened up a general store in Longview which became one of the leading mercantile businesses in central Texas during that time period. Between 1907 and 1951 more than 160 stores were established throughout CentralTexas by various entrepreneurs who varietyed greatly in their interests; most notably store operators such as Ignazio Moretti who operated many grocery stores throughout North Texas during this time period including locations at Cedar Park mall near Dallas, Plano Mills Mall near Plano, Flower Mound Mall just outside Garland Village near Wichita Falls., Midland Mall near Midland City,, Amarillo Mall around Amarillo,, Grand Prairie Plaza mall opposite Grand Prairie Airport., Lewisville Plaza mall just outside Lewisville Village bordering Arlington County,, Beaumont Plaza mall across Beaumont Avenue from New Braunfels,. Many other smaller retail establishments dotted CentralTexas during this era including those inside long abandoned post office buildings like 10th & Elm Streets west of downtown Houston which served as neighborhood shopping centers until recently.(See also:gentrification.) It should be noted that George Wernham did not open up a general store but instead opened up a dry goods store which he named "Wernham's" after himself It should also be noted that despite having many successful years selling groceries GWernham never really made much money from it until after he died 1976 . Finally another important note about George WernHAM's Store mentioned earlier was that even though he frequently traveled to different parts of Texas helping out various merchants Gwen HAMER never got any recognition or accolades locally either until AFTER HIS death so there could be no confusion as to whether or not Gwen HAMER actually owned & operated THAT particular shopEven though GWEHNHAM'S STORE DID NOT REALLY MAKE MUCH MONEY FROM ITS GROCERY SALES UNTIL AFTER HE DIED IN 1976 , THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT HIS STORES DID NOT HAVE A HUGE EFFECT ON THE CLUSTERS OF OTHER MERCHANT STORES OPERATING IN CENTRAL TEXAS During This TIME PERIOD

Longview, Texas is a town in Navarro County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first people to live in Longview were the Comanches. In 1839, General Zachary Taylor's army passed through this community on its way from San Antonio to take possession of New Mexico. A man by the name of Longstreet (probably Joel McDowell) erected a log cabin here and started a grocery store and post office in 1840. In 1845, William Fenton organized the First Baptist Church in Longview; it was one of five churches founded by Fenton that year along with Waco, Ft Worth, Trinity Christianity Church in Irvington (later Arlington), and Plano. In 1847–1848 J. B. Austin drilled oil wells near Longview; these wells became known as Frisco Well No. 3 and 5 because they produced large amounts of oil over a period of several years. By 1850 there were more than fifty residents living in Longview; most had come from surrounding counties or townships within Navarro County where land was plentiful and cheap for farming or ranching purposes. In 1870 James Henson built what would become known as Henson's Store on Fourth Street between Elm and Magnolia Streets; this store served as the nucleus around which development took place around Longview over ensuing decades until it burned down in 1978%. At first most residents supplemented their income by raising cattle or hogs; later agriculture became more important due to increased crop yields caused by irrigation methods developed during World War II when petroleum production began statewide east of Houston - providing money for buildups like Longview just outside its limits Henson’s Store remains an iconic landmark today both inside and outside of town - serving as a reminder that life went on even though big things happened nearby Some other early businesses include Stone’s House Painter & Decorator (established 1851), Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company (established 1865), J M Dent & Sons (established 1886), Rufus Waddell Boot Blacksmith Shop(opened 1886), A C Smith Grain Mill( opened 1893) – all which closed within few years after opening Atkins Agricultural Co." was incorporated here May 6th 1896" long before Texaco came calling with their gas station/gas line that intersected Main Street just north of town . That's when local merchants got together to form what would become Big Spring TX based Businesses Incorporated December 12th 1899 "the Merchants Guild", but branding themselves Atkins AgriculturalCo., still doing business under Atkins Agricultural Co., plumbers etc., until prices changed again not too long ago . It seems some things never change no matter how long you've been doing business ...... another good example is Littlefield Lumber Yard which operated right next door to our old schoolhouse prior to building being moved across town ................. back then schools used to be pretty much everything ....... nowadays we have literally nothing left inside our own town except for 4 buildings on Main street
