On October 12th 1957 Longview voters passed a bond issue authorizing purchase of Lyon-based Lamar Consolidated High School site on Newstead Road north of IH 35W just west of Interstate 10 instead becoming their third city councilmember ever elected locally as well as first African American! Voting results show 96% approval rate for $1 million bond measure passing 515 out 713 total votes cast against only 3 opposition ballots cast! This marks not only an early milestone for African Americans voting locally but also landmark event during Mayor Clements' term in office where city services were transferred from Austin's City Hall originally built with money provided thru federal stimulus dollars resulting in many improvements throughout downtown including replacement or renovation/updating/addition of over 50 downtown buildings some contributing architecturally significant such as Waguespack Auditorium sports complex completed during this time period making LongVIEW home to America's largest municipally sponsored Latino cultural center surpassing San Antonio’sSouthside Cultural Center! In 1935, an oil well was drilled near LongVIEW and production began soon after which numerous businesses were founded including restaurants such as White Sands Cafe & Bakery (now defunct), Texaco Grocery Store (now defunct), Lubbock National Bank (now HSBC) and First National Bank (now part of Wells Fargo). Playground equipment from nearby Beaumont came into use during World War II to amuse servicemen stationed at Fort Bliss while they underwent basic training; however this "fantasy playground" never became reality due to scarce resources at that time along with other wartime projects elsewhere in Midland County such as building airfields out of sandbags! As a result of these events development stalled for years until 1978 when Lone Star College reopened its doors finally spurring increased development around LONGVIEW once again becoming one of TX's most vibrant communities!

In 1848, the Longview people began to settle in what is now Longview County. By 1853, there were a total of fifty-six families living in the county. The first school was established in 1854 and named Eastern School. In 1865, the Longview Agricultural and Mechanical Institute was founded and it has been serving as an educational center for students from all over Texas ever since.
