Longview is a town in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the DFW-Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first people to live in Longview were the Caddo Indians who camped along the banks of the Trinity River and hunted game near its confluence with the Arkansas River. A post office was established at Longview on December 17, 1871, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1876, Hennepin County was created from parts of Dallas and Harris Counties and Longview became a part of that new county. In 1908, Dallas County merged with Friendswood to form Collin County. On November 3, 1910, Longview incorporated as a city under an act passed by the Texas Legislature; it had been proposed to do so by Mayor Jno Pugh but not acted upon until after his death on October 30. A mill building located on Elm Street (now Magnolia) was built by John Stephenson in 1881 for his lumber company just east of downtown Longview. Stephenson also constructed what is now Midtown Center Mall which opened in 1987 adjacent to old Stephenson's Millrace Shopping Center; this mall is anchored by Sears and Kmart stores as well as a large concert hall/theatre complex known as Toyota Hall which underwent major renovation beginning in 2006 and completed in 2007; additionally two smaller hotels were built nearby: Holiday Inn Express & Grand Prairie Mall (opened December 5th 2003) next door to Toyota Hall across IH 35W from Midtown Center Mall while Embassy Suites (opened March 1st 2008) occupies an former bank building across Elm Street from Home Depot located across Elm from IH 35W from downtown LongVIEW

Longview is a town in McLennan County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,865 at the 2010 census. The name "Longview" was given to the community by General James Long of the Union Army during the American Civil War. The first settler in what is now Longview was John Fenton who arrived on July 4, 1846. He and his family were one of the earliest settlers in what would become McLennan County. In 1853, Jno. Waddell founded a trading post at present day Longview and named it after himself - Waddell's Depot which still stands today within walking distance of the town square. On May 1, 1861, Confederate Major General Jubal Early attacked Fort Sumter along the Red River near present day Dallas/Fort Worth and destroyed most of its cannons and stores before retreating back into Georgia with many of his forces destruction including some 350 men from Longview under Captain John Bigham Young who had followed Early northwards from Arkansas. It was here that Captain Bigham Young met his death when he was shot by Confederate cavalryman Newton Baker as they rode through Longview followingEarly's retreat southward on April 14th 1861 just days before Perry's surrender at Appomattox Court House which ended slavery in America for all Americans except those living aboard ships off Charleston Harbor until 1865 when it finally be abolished nationwide. In 1865 Biggs (later Elmore) County was organized out of parts of McLennan and Starr Counties including much of what is now LongVIEW; these new counties became effective on November 1st 1870 when Dallas County detached from Houston County & came into being as a separate county named for Mayor James Humble (1824-1901). On January 15th 1890 long view school opened up operations with thirty five students attending grades one through four located on two acres east side road between Main Street & Spring Branch Road (& old Post Office Building still extant). Mr Geo Bradley served as first teacher until 1893 when Mrs Jennie Wheeler took charge; during her tenure enrollment more than tripled to seventy five students total with nine teachers ranging in experience from Infants thru Sixth Grade! After Mrs Wheeler’s retirement three other women taught during 1903 thru 1907: Miss Emma Stephenson (1873-1964), Mrs Jane Boyd (1875-1966) & Miss Minnie Lowe (1900-1979). During this time enrollment continued to grow steadily averaging over 100 students per year though there were some fluctuations due to World War I shortages etc.; principal among them being an increase in male enrollments reaching seventy six Hugo Schwenzer teaching grade 5 classes 1922-1929 inclusive while also serving as headmaster 1930 thru 1935; Addie Mae Schwenzer also attended LBH high school 1928 thru 1936 & 1937 thru 1940 concurrently looking for a place to enroll her younger sister Loretta later attending LBH High School too! Both girls graduated from LBH High School 1942 tho’ Loretta did not complete her senior year because she enlisted inthe Army Air Forces during World War II! Today long view has averaged about eighty people per year residing inside its limits plus several hundred visitors throughout its numerous parks, restaurants and shops adding yet another layer of excitement to this unique community rich history dating back over 160 years!!
