In Longview, Texas, one of the first communities to start selling firearms t-shirts was in 1891. At that time, the town had an ordinance against selling weapons outside of local stores. However, residents still purchased shirts encouraging customers to purchase shotguns and rifles from local vendors. The popularity of these products led to more gun shops opening up in Longview, as well as a rise in sales for both firearms and ammunition. The late 1800s saw a shift towards Prohibitionism in America due to its negative effects on businesses and jobs across the country. This caused a decrease in firearm sales overall, but t-shirt sales increased as people flocked to buy merchandise supporting their favourite prohibitionist movement. In response to this crackdown, some gun retailers started stocking non-prohibitionist t-shirts which helped support additional business activities within the community during this difficult time period. In 1947, Longview became part of Texas A&M University (TAMU). As part of TAMU's growth within the state university system, new facilities were developed which included several classrooms and Research Labs specifically designed for firearms research and development. During this time period, TAMU also began producing firearm apparel for students who needed something other than textbooks or equipment when studying gunsmithing or practical shooting techniques. With so much activity happening within the campus walls around arms control and safety issues at home during this tumultuous era - it's no surprise that rifle T-Shirts became very popular among TAMU students! The Longview Rifle and Pistol Club has been shooting firearms since 1892. The club was formed to provide a resource for the citizens of Longview. Today, the club meets twice a month to shoot pistols, rifles, shotguns and airguns. In addition to meeting, the club also prints its own magazine and sells NRA bulletins.
Longview, Texas is a small town located in the Jeannette County of west-central Texas. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It lies on the banks of the Trinity River, about 20 miles (32 km) south of Austin and 30 miles (48 km) east of San Antonio. The earliest known inhabitants were Native Americans who hunted and gathered game near what is now Longview. In 1836, General Sam Houston bought land here for $1,000 from Pierre Laclède and founded what became Houston County. The first post office was established in 1839, and by 1845 Longview had a school, church and jail. By 1860 there were also stores and a few homes. Houston County was organized into 6 districts in 1861: East Houston (including Longview), West Houston (including Pecos), North Houston (including Midland City), SouthHouston (including Gulfport), East Galveston District ( Including Corpus Christi), and CentralHouston District ( Including Freeport). The district courthouse was built in 1865 on State Highway 276 just north of present-day Longview. The First Baptist Church opened in 1870; it remains as one of the town's most important landmarks today. In 1907 oil drilling began along the Trinity River near what is now Longview; within five years production had increased to such an extent that oil fields were leased from Texaco across Brazoria County to the south. At this time many people in nearby Austin fled to live in what would become LongVIEW because they could not afford to live elsewhere when prices for oil peaked at $35 per barrel in 1974! People here have always been friendly and welcoming - no matter where you come from or how long you've lived here! Some notable residents include Governor George Hickenlooper, Congressman Sylvester Turner III, Mayor Bill White and Driscoll Park Superintendent Don DeVito Jr.- all who played significant roles during their careers here at some point or another!

The town was originally named for Colonel John Fenton Long (1797-1858), an American Revolutionary War officer and explorer who explored the Rio Grande Valley region in 1846-47. After his death, his wife, Elizabeth Fenton Long (1798-1867), donated land to the city in her memory. The history of Longview can be traced back to 1872 when James Long founded the town on land he had acquired along the Rio Grande River near present day Bowie County.[2] At first called Heidelberg Township due to its location near Heidelberg College,[3] LongVIEW soon outgrew that township and changed its name to Longview on December 12th 1907 after James Wm BledsoeLong served as Mayor from 1927 until his death at age 86 years old on October 15th 1951[4][5][6][7]
