For many years residents have called it their home - today it is one of America's leading center for technology based businesses with over 100 companies locate here including Intel Capital TX headquarters and 20%owned by Apple Inc., making it one of only five towns in Texas with that designation As early as 1836 European settlers began arriving in what would become Longview with hopes of finding new land to farm or ranch following their discovery that adjacent Rancho de Los Llanos had been purchased by Mexico for $2 million dollars just four days earlier! Today’s downtown core was founded around this time thanks to James Fenton who donated 2 acres (0.8 km²) near current day State Fairgrounds as well as land along East Side Road which served as community college graduation square until 1924 when long distance phone service arrived! When Texas became an American state on August 12th 1896 everyone within 1/4 mile (1/2 kilometer) radius had to move! Some notable persons from Longview include businessman Harvey Litton and author John Dickson Carr.
