In 1913, Lumber Mill No. 2 was built in what is now part of Longview East and became one of the largest sawmills in Texas. The Great Depression led to a decline in business activity and many layoffs for workers at the mill until 1970 when it closed down due to lack of demand from customers but reopened as an antique store under new management two years later. The store closed again on September 30, 2007 due to economic difficulties but reopened on November 17th with new ownership and renamed Silverado Antiques & Fine Arts which remains open today as an antiques retailer
