When they arrived in what is now Lockhart County, their initial goal was to find a place where they could keep their cattle and graze their sheep while still being able to trade with other peoples’ countries back home. Eventually these Scotsmen started trading goods with local Indian tribes as well as trading with other parts of the continent for goods brought overland from England or Ireland. As time passed these traders realized that there were more opportunities out there than just the small towns they had been living in back at home so they started moving westward into jurisdictions that would eventually become East Texas including Lockhart County on October 1st 1881 when J D Lockhart signed a deed naming it after himself and his wife Anna Ladd (the namesake ofLockhart TX). The early pioneers were primarily men who owned horses and cattle mainly but also some farmers who grew corn, beans, tomatoes etc.. The first store opened up soon after arriving in what is now the heart of downtown Lockhart which served both locals and travelers alike until 1930 when it closed its doors permanently due to changing times and technology changes however some evidence suggests that this store may have reopened earlier under a different name or even across the street!
