Lockhart is a small town in northeastern Texas, located within the Johnson County seat of Lockhart. The population was 8,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first gun targets were built in Lockhart around 1875 by A.H. Rankin and Wm. Higginson as part of a rifle range on the then- unsettled land between the towns of Lockhart and Marble Falls. By 1895, local businessman J.C. Eakin had purchased an extensive parcel of rolling ranchland west of town and began to build his own gun ranges there, including one that featured sixgun shooting galleries for customers to buy tickets to experience live fire displays from Ulysses S Grant's cannons during Tombstone Week in 1897; Eakin also donated several thousand rounds of ammunition for lockhart residents' use at these events (the earliest known reference to "lockhart gunfire" comes from an account written by Harlan Ellison about an 1886 game at his home). At first, most Gun Club members participated inantonities such as buffalo hunting or deer stalking; but soon enough it became clear that there was potential demand for a more formal target shoot event than just matches between individuals - so they organized their first national meeting in 1899 under the auspices of “The National Rifle Association” (NRA) with goals such as promoting better hygiene among NRA members and increasing competition among American shooters abroad By 1907, lockshooters had become so well-known and respected throughout America that President Theodore Roosevelt issued Executive Order 9393 giving all citizens who possessed shotguns or pistols except farmers “reasonable access” to them without having to obtain a license from local law enforcement officials – making lockharters one of only three places in America where rifles could be possessed openly without registration or proof of ownership During World War I (1914-18), manyLockhart men enlisted in military service; some returned home after being discharged but others stayed on until shortly before Pearl Harbor when hostilities began In 1919, following passage through Congress of the National Firearms Act which regulated handguns interstate and gave ATF jurisdiction over firearm dealers across state lines After two dayslong sessions at Washington D.C., NRA Annual Convention convened at Brown Palace Hotel on April 14-16th 1921 with proceedings televised nationwide by RCA Victor NRA president Frank Sprague delivered opening address followed by exhibits from eighty exhibitors including Savage Arms Company VP James Fenton who demonstrated how their Model 10 shotgun could fire fifty rounds per minute using factory ammo while holding down a trigger pull Of course later this same year Ruger & Co introduced their new 6x24mm Creedmoor magnum revolver into production
