Lockhart, Texas is a small town located insize county located in the center of Texas. The population was 3,865 as of the 2010 census. Lockhart has had its share of gun violence including shootings and murders. For over 60 years the Gun Owners Foundation has been providing support to organizations that work to prevent gun violence in texas. In 1978, two people were shot dead at a local grocery store in Lockhart by an unknown gunman. A few years later another shooting took place when someone opened fire on a family out for dinner near the high school. A few months after that another person was killed when their car was shot at from behind while they were driving home from work. In 1983, one person died after being shot outside of a convenience store in Lockhart after getting into an argument with the clerk over cigarettes

BB guns are a type of firearm that was first developed in the 1870s. They were designed to shoot pellets that can be fired from a hand-held launcher device. BB guns were originally used by children and adolescents as souvenirs, but they have since become popular among adults. The first BB gun was designed by George Stephenson and patented on December 15, 1874. The design featured a metal frame with an elastic band around the barrel which allowed the shooter to control how much lead or powder was shot out of the gun. The gun was designed for use with soft lead ammunition. It took about five years for the development of BB guns to be licensed by the government and made available to civilians. In 1903, John Browning created his own BBgun design which he marketed as the Browning Automatic Pistol (BAP). The BAP was more advanced than any other prior BBgun designs and it featured a detachable magazine that allowed users to reload their weapon multiple times per minute. It also had a longer barrel than any other previousBBguns on the market. In 1938,Walther announced plans to produce its own version of the Browning pistol called the Walther PPK pistols. This new handgun featured many features similar to those seen in later models of handguns such as Glock and Smith & Wesson revolvers. However, it proved too difficult for manufacturers to produce reliable batches of weapons consistent with regulation at this point in time. Lockhart was founded in 1881 by James Lockhart, a cattle and horse breeder. The town grew rapidly from its incorporation as a small settlement to a bustling commercial center by the turn of the century. By 1910, Lockhart had become known for its fine cotton textile production and for its annual Cotton Belt Music Festival. During World War II, Lockhart was an important manufacturing center for munitions and other war-related products. After the war, the town experienced rapid growth as new businesses took advantage ofLockhart's natural resources: oil wells, coal mines, and grazing land. Today, Lockhart is home to more than 100 businesses, including a large hospital and several banks. Its downtown district is one of TX's most vibrant neighborhoods.
On January 1, 1867, Lockhart was incorporated as a town in Hunt County. It became an official city on November 3 of the same year. The first mayor was J.F.Humphrey and the first recorder was Wm.Dickson. In 1912, Lockhart had its first professional baseball team when it joined the League of Texas Professional Baseball Clubs. The team played for one season before being disbanded due to financial reasons. In 1916, Lockhart became home to the second largest oil field in Texas when it was discovered by John Denton and his partners at Wichita Well No 7 near present day Fort Worth). The oil field would eventually produce over 100 million barrels of crude oil which helped drive much of the economic growth that took place in Texas during the 1920s and 1930s.
