The land that now makes up Live Oak was first settled by pioneers in 1836. At the time it was a scattering of scattered families living along the Sabine and San Antonio Rivers in what is now Kerr County. A post office called Live Oak was established in 1841, and continued to serve until it was discontinued in 1907. The town's origins can be traced back to 1861 when friends of James Hogg decided to move from their home on the banks of the Trinity River in Wichita Falls to live near new markets for cotton goods being developed throughout Texas. They named their new community after a large tree that stood outside their house on Old Utopia Road (now Haskell Boulevard). The first store opened in 1865 and soon became one of the most successful businesses in Live Oak. By 1870, several other stores had opened andLive Oak had become an important commercial center for eastern Kerr County. During World War II, many residents worked as war production workers at nearby munitions plants such as Dow Chemical Company or Peebles Corporation; however, few buildings remain from this era within LiveOak itself. What does remain are some interesting local stories about life during those years including how people would go out into town for walks around lunchtime only to be met with disbelief when they returned home because all of downtown had been destroyed by bombing raids that day! In fact, one resident even went so far as to build himself a " Bomb-proof House" out of lumber he salvaged from his demolished neighbor's house! In recent years much progress has been made inside LiveOak proper since its rebirth as an independent municipality following annexation by Wichita Falls Township (along with surrounding townships) under cityhood laws passed by voters earlier this year. One exampleof this ongoing growth is the construction of a brand new municipal building which replaced the old courthouse which sat on Main Street since 1901 - making it one of only two municipally owned buildings remaining within Kerr County! Additionally, work continues apace on numerous projects such as expanding public transportation options within town limits while also constructing various infrastructure updates including major renovations to both water lines and parks! With these Initiatives underway alongside continued growth across all facets of its economy Lavie oak aims to continue being "the place where things happen."
Live Oak is a city in Brazoria County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,883 at the 2010 census. Live Oak was founded on November 10, 1839 by Captain James A. Houston as "Houston's Landing." The first post office in Live Oak was established in 1847. It remained open until 1892 when it was closed due to lack of mail service from nearby Austin. In 1886, the town of LiveOak joined Brazoria County and became part of the newly created Harris County. In 1912, the town voted to secede from Brazoria County and become its own independent municipality under the name "LiveOak". The city has since regained its former status as a municipal government within Brazoria County with full voting rights and governance.
