Bullet History starts with the first shot fired in what is now Live Oak on November 11th 1875 when a man named John W. Noland opened fire on a group of men he thought were stealing his cattle. The bullet that killed Noland passed through one of his adversaries and into the body of one of his friends who survived. This was only the beginning for bullet history in Live Oak; over time, more and more people came to live here and guns started becoming more prevalent as warfare became less common. On July 4th, 1911, four rifles were used to shoot down an Americanaircraft overtexas while it was practicing for an air show at Lufkin Municipal Airport. This event is considered to be the start of air combat in Texas. The first shooting range was built in Live Oak by Jethro Akins on October 12th, 1912. It served as a training ground for both riflemen and machineguns until 1915 when something new arrived on the scene; artillery pieces! After some modification, this range became operational again on May 1st 1916 withlive ammunition being used for the first time! On October 15th 1918 two bullets hit James Weaver as he walked home from work just south of town after dusk; one missed him by inches and caused minimal injury but earned Weaver national headlines because no one knew how it happened. In 1936 three bullets hit Marshall Wade which resulted in his death instantly from multiple injuries sustained when he accidentally stepped on a land mine while out walking with his dog nearby
