Live Oak is a town in Cameron County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,981 at the 2010 census. Live Oak is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. The community is named for a large tree located on the border of the town and Williamson County. The first people to live in Live Oak were farmers who arrived from Kentucky in 1836. In 1840, two families from Arkansas founded Williamson County when they moved west to what is now Cameron County. A post office called Live Oak was established in 1853, and it remained in operation until 1907. In 1876, three men from Louisiana built a cabin near where Live Oak now stands and started a farm which became known as "Lone Pine". In 1888, John Metcalf bought land south of Lone Pine that included most of what is today Live Oak. He began to build a sawmill and store around this time. By 1912, Metcalf had also erected a school and built other public buildings including an opera house which he used until 1924 when it burned down. The first settlers to arrive in Live oak male were: James Witherspoon (1812-1899), Jno Hogg (1817-1892), & Daniel Smith (1800-1885). James Witherspoon came overland with his family from Kentucky on March 20th 1840 . His brother Jedediah Witherspoon accompanied him on this trip; however Jedediah died before reaching Texas . James married Maria Browning on October 9th 1840 while camping near present day Glen Rose just outside of Sumter county , TX Daniel Smith immigrated about 1800 with his parents David Smith & Mary Jane Smith who settled near present day Lancaster , TX Some sources say that another man named John Bigham may have been one of these immigrants but there are no records or evidence to support this claim

The treaty ceded land east of the Colorado River to Mexico in exchange for ownership of Texas. This event is considered one of the most important moments in Texas history.
