Live Oak is a town in Bell County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. Live Oak was founded in 1871 by brothers George and John Live Oak as a loggers' settlement on the banks of the Brazos River. The name "Live Oak" comes from twooak trees that grew along the riverbank. The first post office in Live Oak was established in 1872, and it operated for six years. In 1874, the town became a county seat after being named for James Mouston, who had been appointed county commissioner that year. The first courthouse building was built in 1875; it burned down in 1886 but was rebuilt with help from local residents and taxpayers. A second courthouse building (now used as a library) was erected on land donated by Simeon Pemberton in 1912; it also burned down but was rebuilt with government funding and new exterior materials. In 1916, voters approved an initiative to reincorporate Live Oaks into Bell County because of its growing population and economy. At this time, only two other villages – Garza Heights and Cottonwood – were located withinBell County limits.[2] In 1978, Live Oak joined neighboring Wichita Falls together as one municipality pursuant to an act of the Texas Legislature which granted municipalities such powers when combined into one consolidated area under state jurisdiction.[3][4] That same year saw the opening of what is now known as the LiveOak Centre shopping mall which replaced an earlier shopping center built on land near Garza Heights Elementary School which had been condemned by a judge due to lack of parking capacity[5]. In 1980–81,[6] brick-and-mortar retail stores began openings adjacent to Garza Heights Elementary School while construction continued on an adjacent park/mall complex which would include office space and restaurants when completed.[7][8] On January 1st 1984,[9][10],LiveOak Center opened up shop becoming commercially available for all citizens including those living inside City Limits! Today’s plaza includes several blocks long with over 150 businesses representing nearly every imaginable genre

Live Oak, Texas is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,643 at the 2000 census. It lies on the eastern edge of the Edwards Plateau and is between Austin and Dallas. Live Oak is named after Live Oak Creek which flows through its center. The creek comes from the Butte Mountains to the east and empties into Trinity Bay near Port Arthur. The first settlers in Live Oak were men who had come to Texas in 1836 with General Sam Houston as part of his army during the Mexican-American War. They were following Santa Anna's command to attack Mexico City before it could be taken by force. When they arrived they found that there was no water available so they built a dam on Live Oak Creek to provide drinking water for their cattle and themselves. The first school in Live Oak was established in 1837 when a group of people led by Captain John Hays organized a school district around what is now downtown Live Oak. The curriculum included reading, writing, arithmetic, geography, history and philosophy. In 1840 three more schools were added: one for boys and two for girls. By 1850 there were twenty-six schools operating in Hudspeth County alone! In 1868 an act of Congress designated land within present-day live oak municipality boundaries as open space which became known as "The Park." As part of this designation various measures were taken such as expanding public transportation options by establishing stations at various points within the park including an express train station on Interstate 10 just outside of town (later closed) while other improvements included creating Playground District No 4 with playgrounds throughout much of downtown area; connecting neighborhoods along I-10 with new streetscape features such as sidewalks; adding streetlights; installing streetcar lines; installation of stormwater systems; planting trees (white elderberry/fig/palm); fence construction began on Belmont Lake reservoir area which would become home to residential developments beginning around 1930s followed by annexation efforts to include large tracts surrounding city limits
The city of Live Oak, Texas was founded in 1853 by James H. Polk and his wife, Lucy. The town was named for a live oak that had been planted near the original site of the town. In 1907, Live Oak became an independent city, and in 1916 it merged with neighboring Richardson to form the current City of Richardson.
