The building was dedicated on October 17th of that year when it became known as “Witt Elementary” after Dr Witt himself. After more than thirty years of continuous use and growth within the confines of our small townhome-community assembly hall/library complex - Witt Elementary now stands as an iconic landmark not only within our community but also across much of Medina County!

On November 3, 1836, General Sam Houston was born in Little Elm. He served as a colonel in the Texas Revolution and later became the first governor of Texas. After Texas independence, he moved to San Antonio and resumed his political career. He was elected president of the Republic of Texas in 1845 and again in 1849. As president, Houston fought for annexation of California by the United States and against Mexican efforts to control the region. In 1850, he resigned from office after being impeached on charges of bribery and treason.
