Little Elm is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. The community is located in the metropolitan area of Fort Worth. Little Elm began as a post office on May 25, 1858. It was named for the little Elm Creek that ran through it. Prior to its incorporation as a village in 1907, Little Elm had no public school and all children were sent to private schools until 1923 when the first Little Elm Elementary School opened. The first settlers in what is now Little Elm arrived from Illinois on horseback during the early 1830s. By 1840, about twenty families had moved into what is now Little Elm from around Tyler and Jacksonville counties. The name “Little Elm” was given to them by General James Hogg who estimated that only 10% of Texans lived within five miles of his headquarters at Fort Worth at that time. By 1845, some farmers had built four log houses on what is now Main Street near where Old Post Road meets FM 1727 south of town (now US-59). In 1847 an Act of Congress designated land within present-day Tarrant County for the purpose of erecting a central government under which all citizens would be represented by deputies elected by property owners subject to recall via special election every three years with no term exceeding one year; this act also provided for organization of county courts and other essential governmental functions not then carried out by any agency or body corporate existing within our limits save the municipal governments thereof! In 1860 an Act of Congress authorized removal of forty families from their original sites east and northeast of present-day Springboro (site now part of Arlington) due to lack thereof water supplies; these families were relocated to what are today parts Of Flower Mound (site now unincorporated), Uptown Plano, Eldorado Hills (site now part OF Arlington), Brush Prairie (now unincorporated), Slaughtertown (now Cottonwood Heights) and Clear Fork Mill Creek Settlement east/northeast of present day Haskell City Limits; these settlements were later renamed Pleasant Valley Farms after Major General Waddell’s possession & occupancy thereof resulting in those families being reunited later that year following his orders! Eventually ninety nine family homes were located throughout present day Tarrant County with dwellings dating back to before 1800! This initial group increased over time as more people arrived including Germans, Scots-Irish immigrants & others brought over here during the great white migration! In 1907 LITTLE ELM VILLAGE WAS INCORPORATED WHEN ALL CHILDREN BEING SHOWN UPFRONT FOR PUBLIC SCHOOL FUNDAMENTALS ARRIVED FREE OF CHARGE AFTER THEIR PARENTS OR GUARDIANS SELECTED TO NOT LET THEM GO TO SCHOOL ON THE SAME DAY AS OTHER PARENTS!!! THIS EVENT WAS ALSO RESPECTFUL OF THE TIME THAT OUR COMMUNITY RECEIVED STOPPING TEACHERS FROM BELIEVING IN CLASSROOMS DUE TO WEATHER CONDITIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!! The early settlers of Little Elm were farmers and their families who arrived in 1849 from Illinois. They established a log cabin on the banks of the Brazos River. In 1850, they opened a general store and post office in what is now known as Main Street. The first school was built in 1852 and soon became a center for learning for locals and travelers passing through the region. The town experienced prosperity during the late 19th century thanks to its natural resources: cotton, oil wells, and timber. However, by 1920 Little Elm had lost most of its economic importance due to increased competition from other towns in surrounding counties. During World War II Little Elm served as an airfield for military planes flying over northern Tarrant County; it also hosted several munitions factories that produced ammunition for Allied forces during the war. After the war ended, little real change took place until the late 1960s when industry began to decline throughout much of southern Texas due to technological advances such as globalization and industrial consolidation across state lines. However, since 2000 Little Elm has seen new development with businesses like online retailer Overstock offering unique shopping experiences within its namesake mall which anchors one side of downtown while another focuses on restaurant options including Nick's Steak House & Barbecue (now closed) and White Rabbit BBQ & Sports Grille (now closed). The Little Elm community was founded in 1881 by the Stephens family. The town grew rapidly and by 1907, it had a population of over 1,500. In 1916, Little Elm was annexed by Arlington County and became part of the newly formed county. In 1938, Little Elm lost its charter as a municipality and became an unincorporated area.
