Little Elm is a town in Collin County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. Little Elm is located on the banks of the Trinity River. By 1860, little Elm had a population of just six people and a schoolhouse. The society bought 5 acres (2 ha) of land at what is now Walnut Creek Boulevard and planted crops there until 1915 when an irrigation system was built that made Little Elm one of the most irrigated towns in Texas. In 1916, William Jennings Bryan won his bid for U.S. Senate against incumbent John Fenton and ran on a platform calling for Prohibitionism; he became America's first statewide candidate to win election as an openly gay man (the campaign slogan "He who votes prohibition will be entombed with me") In 1924, Little Elm became one of ninety-eight cities and towns in Texas to join Together As One under Mayor Jock Mahony; it remained annexed into Dallas until November 25, 1963 when it voted 3-2 to secede from Dallas due to its opposition to then-Mayor Roy Hofmeister's efforts to annex more municipalities intoDallas without their consent – this event is memorialized by the observation that "First Amendment rights don't transfer easily." That same year saw another annexation attempt by Dallas – this time fanning out across Irving Street into northeastern Little Elm proper – but again residents successfully opposed annexation with slogans such as "We're not going anywhere" . As suburban development progressed throughout Collin County during the 1950s and 1960s,Little Elm slowly lost its importance within city limits while Greater Dallas grew larger and wealthier than ever before. In 2007, however, plans were put forward for redevelopment of much of easternLittle Elm which included demolishing homes and replacing them with parks/ranches/sports complexes/residential neighborhoods called “Evergreen”; community members fought back tooth and nail against these plans through protests until finally they were abandoned after heavy police presence resulted in several injuries including one elderly woman who suffered facial fractures from rocks thrown at her home from protesters attempting entry . Little Elm, Texas is a town in the U.S. state of Texas. The population was 9,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex. Little Elm is located in Hidalgo County and is bordered by McKinney to the north, Richardson to the east, University Park to the south and Plano to the west. The name "Little Elm" comes from two sources: one source says it was given by Spain as a gift to Americans who had helped liberate Mexico from Spanish rule; another source says it was chosen because of its similarity in pronunciation to "elm," an oak tree. The community began as a post office called Gainesville on May 15, 1865, with Alington Wagoner appointed first postmaster. In 1872, James Ewell built a rancho on what became known as Ewell's Hill near present-day Little Elm and started farming cotton and other crops there until 1875 when he sold his land to Prentice Morton for $3,000 (). Morton built Fort Worth's first cotton gin on this site in 1876 (). Wagoner served as postmaster here until 1893 when he moved upstate with his family and returned later that year to serve as county commissioner (1894-1896). In 1896 Wagoner married Anna Payne (1857-1924), daughter of John Payne (1800-1887). They had six children: Anna Eliza Wagoner (b1897), James Everett Wagoner (1902-1981), Aileen Elizabeth Wagoner (born 1905), Robert Edward Wagoner (1909-1991) and Loretta Lynnette Wagoner Villegas (born 1912). In 1907 El Paso de Tejas Railway Company reached Little Elm from Ibañez Junction about four miles away via State Highway 6 then through rural Hidalgo County - becoming one of America’s longest railroads (). On December 17th 1902 James Everett “Jelly” Wagoner married Alice Keyes east of Amarillo off FM 4361 just outside present day Plano while they were both students at Amarillo School District #2 where Alice taught fifth grade... their only child was born 10 months premature under very difficult circumstances including contractions for over 7 hours each period! 3 days later they took their son home with them after some everyone else abandoned them because there wasn't any relief available!
In 1836, Little Elm was founded by John Denton and his wife- Anna. The town grew rapidly due to its natural resources, including timber and water. In 1849, the townsfolk voted to incorporate as a city. Little Elm flourished until the early 20th century when it experienced significant declines in population and economy. In 1926, Little Elm was merged with Dripping Springs to form a new city called Dripping Springs-Little Elm. Today, the city is considered an important cultural center in Texas due to its diverse art scene, nightlife, and restaurants.
