Little Elm, Texas is a small town in the U.S. state of Texas and is the county seat of Hudspeth County. The population was 2,872 at the 2010 census. It lies in east-central Hudspeth County on the banks of the Arkansas River near its confluence with the Red River. The first settlers in what would become Little Elm were two families who arrived from Louisiana in 1836. On March 1, 1837, they organized themselves into a town charter and named it Little Elm after their home state, Illinois. They erected a courthouse and began to build homes. A post office was established in 1840, and by 1845 there were five stores, one hotel (the “Fulton Hotel”), four churches (one Congregational), one jail (the “Lincoln Jail”), three schools (grades one through twelve) and three mills (all waterpowered). In 1847 Isaac Brock built an addition to his store building that became known as Brock’s Mill because he employed local blacksmiths to fabricate items for sale there such as saddles, harnesses and bridles. In 1850 Hernando de Soto discovered oil seeps along Arkansas River near present day Little Elm while exploringTexas for gold; accordingly this discovery boosted development around Little Elm as wells as other nearby towns due to increased traffic on the river caused by prospectors looking for new finds upstream or downstream from their current holdings/locations[2]. As early as 1849 James Waddell mentioned possibilities for growing cotton hereabouts but no action was taken until1858 when John Moulton purchased some land adjacent to present day Fort Worth Road about midway between Cedar Creek Rd./Hwy 214/Little Elm Rd./US 287 bridge crossing over Arkansas River from TX into OK also known then as Indian Territory under US occupation during Mexican War[3]. Gun swivels have a long and varied history, dating back to at least the 1700s. In those days, pistols were typically fired with one hand while the other was used to cock the gun. That changed in the mid-19th century when revolvers became more common and many owners began using two hands to fire their handguns. In 1836, the Republic of Texas was founded by Texans who wanted to avoid being annexed by Mexico. They named their new state Little Elm after a small town in Texas that had been hit hard by the Mexican-American War. The republic lasted only a few months before Mexico took it over and made it their own independent country. Little Elm experienced some of its most dramatic changes during this time. One of the biggest changes was when the railroads came through town, providing access to different parts of the country for people living in Little Elm and other small towns near Corpus Christi. This changed life so much that many people left Little Elm for better opportunities. The most significant event that took place in Little Elm during this time was when John Foust became mayor in 1849. Foust is famous for creating Corpus Christi as a major port on the Texas Gulf Coast and helping to start what is now known as the oil industry in Little Elm. He also helped create Central High School which still serves students today from grades 7-12.
Little Elm is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas. The population was 3,635 at the 2000 census. Little Elm is home to the Little Elm Battlefield National Monument and the John F Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum.
