Little Elm is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Little Elm is the county seat of Hudspeth County. The first people to live in what is now Little Elm were the Creek Indians. They built their homes on high ground overlooking the Confluence of the Brazos and Trinity Rivers. In 1836, landowner James Fenton sold some of this land to A.J. Beall & Company for $1,000 cash. Beall named his new property "Little Elm" after one of his many farms he had purchased in Alabama a few years earlier (the farm currently known as Carthage). He donated part of his land to founded First Baptist Church which met there from 1837-1839 before moving across the river to what is now First Baptist Church Cemetery in 1840. On October 21st, 1835, Elijah Porter baptized nine children under age 10 at First Baptist Church with Revs Ebenezer Cook and Hiram Wilkinson officiating. This event would become known as "Porter's Baptism". The first church building was erected on this site in 1845. In 1865, when Little Elm was annexed by Dallas into Dallas County, it became its second county seat; however, it continued to be its primary cultural and commercial center until 1959 when downtownDallas replaced it as the city's business district.
In 1961-1963 Little Elm experienced a significant change when developers bought much of downtownDallas for $350 million and demolished most of its historic buildings - including First Baptist Church - creating an office park that remains one of Dallas' largest today.
