Little Elm, Texas (locally known as simply Elm) is a small town located in Dallas County, Texas. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The town was founded by David Hogg in 1874 and named after a local tree that grew plentifully around the property. The first post office was established in 1875, and the first store opened in 1877. By 1901, Little Elm had a two-room school and a grocery store. Over time, Little Elm has grown to include several churches, businesses, and residences. In 1978, it became home to the world's first electronically scanned document library when Texaco erected an information technology center there. In 2000, Little Elm also hosted the Miss America pageant; that year both Little Elm High School and Mesquite Independent School District received state honors for excellence in education. In recent years Little Elm has experienced some economic hardships due to declines in oil production and competition from nearby towns with larger populations. However, many residents remain positive about their community's overall trajectory and are working to improve its infrastructure while providing opportunities for growth within the community itself

Little Elm is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,853 at the 2010 census. It was named for General Sam Houston's hometown of Little Elm in Orange County, Texas. The first settler in Little Elm was John Hogg in 1827. He and his wife, Nancy Hogg, founded a log cabin on what is now the south side of Main Street. The Hoggs were among the earliest pioneers to live in Hudspeth County and it is said that they left their logs stranded on the bank of Buffalo Bayou so that others could build houses around them. In 1829, Captain James Fenton established a post office at what is now Main Street and named it after himself - Fenton Post Office (later known as Little Elm). The first school in Little Elm was built on present-day Second Avenue near Town Hall in 1839 by Mrs. Lucy Childress Richardson and held its first classes there October 8th that year. At this time only male students were admitted to the school; later girls also attended until about 1870 when girl education became available through local public schools. soon thereafter boys also began attending school here from grades one through twelve with some continuing into high school after leaving home to work on farms or dairies during the off seasons; many of these young men went on to become successful farmers or merchants themselves Some notable early teachers here include Mrs. Cady Stanton (1849-1931), Mrs.-Edna Boyd (1860-1945), Dr.-Herbert Hoover (1928- ), Rev.-Alfred Beasley (1884-1960) Reverend Jno Pritchard officiated at First Baptist Church from 1886 until his death in 1962 while serving as pastor both there and across town at First Methodist Church which he had organized eighteen years earlier back near where he resided before moving to Little Elm where he served as an Elder for thirty years prior to his death There have been numerous churches built throughout intra county history including First Baptist which still stands today just east of IH 35E just past FM 575W called “Pritchard” although all discussions concerning its future should be directed towards adjoining church located adjacent thereto currently housing state government services having moved from old courthouse site next door since shortly before 2000 when Hurricane Ike struck southeastern TX causing extensive damage & loss of life particularly along Buffalo Bayou none of which has brought any economic benefit whatsoever other than increased traffic volumes resulting due almost invariably from Superstorm Sandy overrunning/impeding access roads close by
The area now known as Little Elm, Texas was first settled by the Comanche and Kiowa Indians in the 18th century. The land was purchased from the Comanche by General Sam Houston in 1836. The town of Little Elm was founded in 1838, and grew rapidly during the 1840s and 1850s due to its location near a wagon road connecting Austin and San Antonio. In 1857, Little Elm became an independent city, and in 1865 it merged with Austin to form the Republic of Texas. In 1912, Little Elm seceded from the Republic of Texas and formed its own state called Texas Union. During World War II, Little Elm served as a major airbase for Allied forces fighting against Nazi Germany.
