Little Elm is a city in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 9,851 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Little Elm is located on a small bend in the Brazos River just east of Fort Worth and west of Arlington. The first European settlement in what would become Little Elm occurred in 1836 when citizens of Fort Worth petitioned for annexation by Little Elm as part of their efforts to form a new state named after themselves. Ultimately TCU chose to locate on concurrent landowned by both cities and made Little Elm one of its main campus destinations with more than 1 million students visiting each year since 2000 alone! Little Elm is a small town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Little Elm is part of the Austin-Round Rock, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1879 by General James Fenton and his wife Eliza Fenton as a trading post on the San Jacinto River. It was named for their son Elias Fenton who fought in the Mexican–American War. In 1902, Little Elm became a city and its name changed to Little Elm City in 1945. The climate in this area is continental and mild year-round with average temperatures ranging from 67 degrees Fahrenheit (19 degrees Celsius) to 98 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius). According to the Köppen Climate Classification system, Little Elm has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa". The first settlers arrived in 1879 when General James Fenton and his wife Eliza Fenton established Fort Pulaski on what is now called FM 1960 south of Big Spring. They were greeted by Native Americans who had been living there for several hundred years before that time. These people lived near what is now downtown Little Elm and along the San Jacinto River which flows through town center. At that time it was considered very dangerous to travel beyond one's home village so trade goods were important among these early residents. Trade goods included buffalo robes, hides and other meat products; Marcos Indian cornmeal sweet potatoes; Apache chilies; cottonseed oil; sugarcane molasses; and saltpeter until government regulation eliminated most of this commerce during the late 1800s following warfare with Mexico Today some relics of these early days can still be found including an old fortification wall around town center dating back to 1881 that still surrounds much of downtown including portions of Second Street between Lamar Boulevard and US 290; an old courthouse located on Main Street just east of I-10 exit 114A off I-10 just north of Highway 453 (now known as Loop 610); four dugout canoes discovered northeast of town along Slaughter Creek near Slaughter Lakeoufillahoahchicana National Monument Park off US 183 about 12 miles west of Big Spring on FM 571 about midway between Slaughter Creek Rd./FM 529 & Loop 610/I-10 exit 116A
The Little Elm community in north-central Texas was founded in 1876. The town was named for a small stream known as Elm Creek. In 1881, the first post office was established in Little Elm and the population reached 100 people. The first school opened in 1885 and by 1896, Little Elm had a grocery store, two churches, a bank and three schools. By 1914, the population had grown to 575 people and the first movie theater opened in Little Elm. A new water tower was built in 1922 and a noxious gas plant was built in 1928. By 1940, there were only 25 people living in Little Elm and by 1948, all but one of the original homes had been destroyed by fire or tornado. In 1961,Little Elm became an independent city with its own government and mayor. The city continued to grow until it reached its current size of nearly 60 square miles with over 100 businesses located within its boundaries.
