Lewisville, Texas is a city in Baylor County, Texas, United States. The population was 26,845 at the 2010 census. Lewisville is the county seat of Baylor County. The towns of Midlothian and Stonehill are each adjacent to Lewisville. The town of Lewisville was founded by Colonel John C. Frémont on November 14, 1835 as Fort Hindman in present-day Midlothian Township (now part of Stonehill). Frémont named it for General James B. Polk because he thought Polk would lead America into World War II if he lived in that area. The city was incorporated on February 24, 1886 as the town of Lewisville and became its county seat on December 1, 1907. It consolidated with Midlothian Township on January 1, 1907 to form what is now Baylor County. The population decreased from 362 in 1910 to 26,845 during the 2000 census; however it has grown since then due to annexation by other cities and counties within Baylor County including Humble and Garland Heights which have had their populations swell as well over the last few decades while Lewisville's population stayed relatively stable at around 27,000 residents
