The history of Lewisville began with Jacob Lewis (1821-1905), a German immigrant who settled along the Trinity River in what is now Lewisville. He took over a store run by his father, John Lewis (1792-1869). In 1865, Jacob's brother Jameson bought out Jacob's interest in the store and continued to run it under the name Jameson & Company. In 1881, Isaac Beall (1838-1912) bought out Jameson & Company and changed its name to Beall & Son. By 1912, Beall had retired from business operations and sold his interest in the town to his son Sam Beall Jr. Sam Jr. served as Mayor from 1951 until he died in 1955; then David Hogue (1959-1981) served as Mayor until he resigned due to term limits set by the Texas Legislature at that time. In 1957, David Hogue’s widow Jane donated land to be used for a community college; however, no college ever developed from this donation. In 1984, local businessman Tom Hicks donated $10 million for general development within the boundaries of Lewisville City Limits - which included both parts of present day Lewisville proper as well as portions adjacent thereto including Flower Mounde Road - creating what is now known as Hicks Development Corporation Limited Partnership or “HDC” for short Ltd., one of North Texas' leading real estate developers In 1990 HDC purchased over 1 million square feet at 6701 Flower Mounde Rd., becoming one of Austin's most significant propertyowning families In 2002 HDC sold its assets including flower mounde road properties for $126 million cash to current owner George Waddell Incorporated or "GWI" On October 16th 2006 GWI announced their intention to rezone all sections now within our corporate boundaries back into unincorporated agricultural landsirted with but never having been developed because: environmental concerns were raised about oil exploration offsite; how growth could impact water usage on neighboring farmsteads; there was potential for new jobs being created through industrial production on site rather than services such as retail employment associated with other redevelopment projects nearby
