In Lewisville, Texas there is a history of gun mags dating back to the early 1800's. The first gun mag in Lewisville was established in 1825 and it was known as the "Lewisville Rifle and Pistol Club". The club met at a farmhouse on Elm Street. One of the club members, John A. McKnight, donated two rifles and four pistols to the club. The first magazine issue of the "Lewisville Rifle and Pistol Club" featured an article about how to make artillery rounds. On July 16th, 1826, the Lewisville Rifle and Pistol Club published an issue with articles about muzzleloading guns and shotguns. The Lewisville Rifle and Pistol Club continued to publish magazines until 1907 when they disbanded due to lack of membership. Between 1825-1827 there were also attempts by other local organizations to establish a rifle or pistol range in Lewisville but these failed because there was not enough money available for such a project. In 1828, Patrick J. Fergus founded what would become the Austin Gunsmith Shop which began offering firearms services within three weeks of opening its doors. This gave rise to what is now known as Fergus Rifles & Shotguns which continues operating today as one of Austin's oldest retail businesses
