In 1940, Lewisville annexed portions of neighboring townships (Garland Heights was absorbed into Lewisville while Fruitland Park was annexed into Weatherford Heights) resulting in a total population of 7,853 people living in 15 municipalities within Comanche County. The city's growth continued during World War II as numerous factories were built within its boundaries including Curtiss-Wright Aircraft Co., Texaco Inc., Harris Corporation (later Texaco Service Station), American Telephone & Telegraph Company (AT&T), United States Paper Company (UPPC), Allied Signal Corporation (ALS), as well as dozens of other businesses which helped drive economic development throughout the war years. After the war ended, Lewisville experienced significant growth with the arrival of millions of new residents who wanted to settle in what had become one of America's most developed cities. Today, Lewisville is an overwhelmingly white city with high concentrations of industrial employment located along Interstate 35W close to major shopping malls and highways
Lewisville, Texas was founded in 1836 by James Bowie and his brothers. The town was named for General David C. Lewis of the Confederate army who fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1881, Lewisville became a county seat and was renamed for Judge John F. Lewis of the Dallas County District Court.
