By 1870-71, they had composed four white stone houses on their new property which remain standing today as part of the cityscape of Lewisville. The community grew rapidly during the 19th century with many businesses opening up including banks (The First National Bank opened in 1872), churches (The Methodist Episcopal Church erected its first building in 1875), schools (A schoolhouse was built in 1870) and residences (Many homes were constructed between 1870-1890). In 1907-08 when Interstate 35 was completed through Medina County it increased population growth by 50%. Many small businesses closed down due to competition from larger companies but some such as the Lighthouse Tavern managed to keep going until around 1930 when most merged into larger companies or went out of business altogether.
In 1835, the Lewisville and Henderson Railroad was completed. It became one of the first railroads in Texas. The railroad also served as a means for goods to be transported from east to west.
