Levelland was a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. He built a cabin on what is nowowned by Lutheran Church/Fort Worth and named it Hargrave's Camp. A store opened in 1881 and soon there were also two schools: one for white children and one for African Americans. In 1882, Waddell Stroud purchased land from John Hargrave and opened the first general store in Levelland. By 1886, there were four stores in Levelland with an average size of 10 feet by 20 feet. In 1889, Fenton & Company established a lumberyard that became one of the largest in Texas and manufactured everything from posts to bridges. By 1912, Levelland had three churches: Evangelical Lutheran (later First Presbyterian), Methodist Episcopal (laterMethodist Episcopal), and Baptist; two schools; two blacksmiths; four hotels; twelve farms; sixty-six residents; and $2 million worth of assets including real estate valued at $27 million when it was taken over by the Texas Railroad Commission in 1928
