Levelland is a small town in Vernon County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,842 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area. The first people to live in Levelland were farmers and their families who arrived around 1851. A post office was established in 1854 and named Levelland after General George Armstrong Custer's Ranch on the edge of present day Levelland Township. In 1865, John Fenton built a log cabin on a knoll overlooking the community which served as its first store and schoolhouse. In 1874, Lillie Wright married Isaac Pease from nearby Arlington and they began growing cotton inside their home until it became too large to grow indoors. They then went out into the fields to do manual labor for twelve hours each day sunup to sundown for two years until they could afford seeds and started growing cotton again outside on an adobe foundation that remains today known as the Pease House (now a museum). By 1886 there were six stores in town with three hundred residents; by 1910 there were only twenty-two residents living in what is now Levelland Township due to development within Vernon County over time including ranches that took over land here such as those of Colonel Harry Sinclair which removed most of the original settlers The railroad came through town in 1901 when it was extended eastward from Fort Worth via nearby Arlington to serve new settlers coming up from Mexico City following Mexican independence In 1907, Levelland had one thousand citizens when it annexed Vernon County’s other small village of Garland because it was felt that Garland would become too elitist and arrogant if it didn’t have its own grocery store etc., but this annexation never happened In 1925, J P Heinemann opened his bar/cafeteria called Heinemann’s which quickly became America’s first drive-in restaurant open 24/7 serving soft drinks (still available) ice cream sandwiches “gummy bears” candy bars Slurpee sodas fountain water service started about 1924 also

Levelland, Texas is a small town in the Texas Hill Country located about 20 miles west of Austin. The population was 2,089 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-area metropolitan area. The Levelland post office was established on November 3, 1892. The first settler in Levelland was W.J. Hargrave who arrived in 1873 and homesteaded land near present day Levelland Creek on which he built a log cabin and store. His son, John Hargrave, also settled in what is now Levelland and began to grow cotton plants from his home farmstead in 1881. By 1886, all of present day Levelland had been surveyed and platted as a town by J.H Wright & Sons surveyors under the name “Leeds” for Wm Ladd (founder). At this time it consisted of just a few homes with about 60 residents living on three streets east of Main Street and one block south of US Highway 618 (now US Highway 290). A schoolhouse was built near present day Old Mill Road and Mrs Hargrave donated two acres (0 0 shares) for public use adjacent to her home to support her children while they finished primary school; this parcel would later be known as Hagerman Park! In 1893 Mr Hargrave sold his holdings within the town limits to Elisha Blythe who laid out a new street grid that still exists today including: main street north/south; east/west avenues; Hagerman Park off Old Mill Road; De Witt Avenue between Main Street & Hagerman Park; Willacy Avenue between Main Street & De Witt Avenue A post office called "Levelland" was established at this location on November 3, 1892 with Wm Tatum as the first mail carrier In 1898 water rights were awarded by Congressman James M Bradley to Barton Co Water Users Association Inc for what would become Barton County cattle drives started around 1902 bringing many more people into Levelland In 1907 Dr Harry J Wilkinson became replaced by Dr C R Whitehead as Medical doctor for county government After WWI many families leftTexas due to economic reasons among them were some members of The Webb family
Levelland was founded in 1879 by John L. Levelland and his wife, Emma. The town was named for the property on which it was founded. In 1902, the town voted to become a municipality. On November 3, 1912, the townspeople approved a resolution to change its name to Levelland-Amarillo.
