The name "Levelland" comes from its founder, James A. Levelland Sr., who came to the area in 1879 and platted what is now Levelland on his Rancho San Marcos land. The community was founded by James A. Levelland Sr., a cattleman who arrived in 1879 and platted what is now Levelland on his Rancho San Marcos land. In 1881, he sold some of his ranch to John Wesley Hill and others for $10 per acre (1/4 mile²). By 1885, the town had been platting for over 20 years and contained about 100 residents. In 1907, Ralph Hogg opened the first store in Levelland which became a local landmark until it closed down in 1978 due to health concerns related to asbestos insulation used in its roofing materials. In 1922, Clyde Ives opened a grocery store which remains open today as Shoprite locations throughout much of West Texas are known for their LaGrande ice cream cones made from cow's milk that are hand-packed at home each day by employees using only natural ingredients like cane sugar and creamweed seeds - an unusual product at the time! In 1951 when Bastrop County was combined with Williamson County to form new Bastrop County District No. 2 (later renamed Austin), portions of downtown were annexed into Levelland as well as other areas including Spring Branch Road east of Interstate 35E; this annexation also included parts of Slaughtertown before being rescinded following public protestations from residents thereabouts! As late as 1978 there were still two Shoprite locations remaining active within town limits - one just east of I-35E off Spring Branch Road near Slaughtertown Shopping Center while another operated out back off US Highway 183 south of town limits just beyond Chimney Rd./SR 214 about halfway across Town Lake from First Baptist Church! Accordingly during those years nearly all commercial activity within reachof either location took place inside or outside the confines of what has become known locally affectionately as "the White House". As recently as 2012 however both stores had been vacated and boarded up leaving much evidence that once vibrant commercial districts adjacent to major shopping malls have progressively fallen victim to physical deterioration typical associated with mall conversions over time leading ultimately to job loss among formerly employed staff members - something which theseDNorman businesses unfortunately can often stomach but cannot avoid!

Levelland is a small town located in Fort Worth County, Texas. The community was founded by James Levelland in 1881. It became a census-designated place in 1984 and has a population of about 8,000 people. The first post office in Levelland was established in 1882. In the early 20th century, Levelland was known for its cattle ranching and cotton production. Today, the town's main industry is agriculture with some Manufacturing also taking place. The name "Levelland" comes from the Choctaw word "lil' vellanda." James Levelland found this word while exploring Indian Territory during the late 19th century. He was looking for new land to farm when he came across an area that had been cleared of trees and bushes by Native Americans called "Lillie's Corners." After landing his team at Lillie's Corners, he began to clear land that would become what is now known as Levelland. In 1881, James Levelland built a log cabin on what is now Main Street in what is today the northeast corner of town. He named his new settlement after himself and his wife Annadotter (Natchez). At first there were only 10 residents living in Lillie's Corners - all farmers who worked on James' farmstead. By 1882, however, the population had grown to 30 settlers - many of whom were recent immigrants from England and Scotland whoowned slaves or charter rights to purchase them from their African owners at auctions overseen by District Judge John Crainer Jr.. The growth of Lillie's Corners led to increased demand for goods and services brought into town by local farmers; thus businesses like Mr. Fenton’s grocery store started up soon after independence from Mexico arrived in 1912 (Fenton operated until 1978). Another important factor that contributed to increasing business activity around here was railroads which fueled transportation needs throughout Fort Worth County during this time period; boats which transported goods like watermelons ashore; general stores such as Mrs Ballard’s millinery & notions store opened up; Temperance meetings were held at various points throughout these years that provided social support for those effected by alcohol prohibition; horses were used extensively for wagons back then so turnout wasn't too great & lots of gardens done
