Levelland, Texas is a small town in Midland County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,879 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community is located on the banks of the Trinity River and has a post office and two churches. The first residents of Levelland were three brothers who arrived in 1847 from Illinois. They started a tannery and mill and built a log cabin near what is now Main Street. In 1851 they sold their land to A&P clothing store founder John Denton for $2,000. Denton renamed his town Levelland after his family's home country of Holland. In 1857 Joice Hogg married David Ladd and together they founded Girdwood Female Seminary which became Southern Methodist University (SMU). The passenger train that ran through Levelland stopped there on its way to Dallas in 1914 when tracks were being rebuilt; it was the only stop along this route ever made again! In 1928 Harry Chandler opened the first drive-in restaurant in North America—the Hanna Drive-In—in what is now known as Chandler's Corner Shopping Center east of Uptown Levelland across from SMU Stadium (now Texas Memorial Stadium). This was immediately followed by other restaurants over time until today there are more than 60 drive-ins scattered throughout Greater Dallas! Ladd's News stand served as headquarters for both SMU football team (1929–2010) and Mavericks basketball team (1963–present). The current newsstand building also housed stores such as Joannes Cramer’s Grocery until it closed down in 2013 due to lack of business activity; however, memorabilia from this era can still be found inside! Levelland's history goes back even further than that! One early resident, Harlan Stephenson, erected a smokehouse on land donated by Gideon Wellborn around 1852 to cook bacon for local farmers during their winter months when no other means existed to get food to marketable status. After Stephenson died in 1865 his widow continued cooking bacon out her smokehouse until 1903 when she handed over operations to her son Milton Stephenson II who modernized it*. After Milton Stephenson II passed away in 1954 his wife Bessie took over*(*See footnote below). Today’s well-preserved brick smokehouse provides insight into life at that time††(). Unfortunately it too has gone out of business recently but you can still see evidence of hams baking here today at various points along Main Street where bakers would go between classes or work during lunchtime!‡‡

Levelland is a small town in the Texas Panhandle, located about 30 miles west of Amarillo, the state capital. The population was 557 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Amarillo–New Braunfels metropolitan area. The Levelland community was founded by German immigrants in 1876 and named for George L. Levelland, an entrepreneur who had come to Texas from Germany in 1865. (George L. Levelland & Company was a cotton gin and factory that operated on Railroad Street in Levelland from 1876 to 1916.) In 1886, J.Q. Smith moved his furniture store from Olney, Maryland to what is now known as Main Street in Levelland after purchasing 960 acres (30 hectares) of land east of the railroad tracks that he called "Center Point". After obtaining a charter from the Texas Legislature in 1889, J.Q.'s business became known as The Smith Store and Warehouse Co., Ltd., until it merged into Sears Roebuck & Co., Incorporated on January 1, 1974.(Leeds Mill #1). In 1907, Harry Huggins opened his first grocery store at 402 Main Avenue; subsequent stores were located at 712 Main Avenue (1910), 914 Main Avenue (1911), 1202 Main Avenue (1913), 1404Main Avenue(1920), 1604Main Avenue(1925), and 1808Main Avenue(1929). On July 3rd 1930- Elmer Andersen became the first person ever to win a golf tournament held at South Side Park Golf Course with victory over Clyde Edwards . After winning their fourth consecutive PGA Championship Tournament at Hillcrest Country Club on October 4th 1931 they donated $5,000 towards construction of A&M University's new football stadium which opened September 2nd 1933 under the name "Hillsborough Stadium". In 1935 local rancher Aubrey Reeves began producing oil wells near present day Levelland when well logs were found during surface exploration operations being conducted by Enterprise Oil Corporation along Interstate 40 between Wichita Falls and Amarillo; Reeves developed these wells into what would become one of Enterprise's most successful oil production operations reaching its peak production levels during World War II with an output of 1 million barrels per day.(Eccles Wellsite)(Reeves Ranch)(Oilwell Records)(2) In 1942 Aubrey Reeves married LaVonne Beekman who later became one of America's leading steel manufacturers.(Beekman family home)(steel industry/Aubrey Reeves) In 1951 former commodities broker Julius Kapp set up shop here selling real estate services before moving back East to New York City where he died in 1984.(Kapp Real Estate Service Inc.) As early as 1907 there were some residents here engaged in farming such as James Weldon who raised chickens for eggs and beef cattle; other activities such as hunting game or fishing included trapping hogs and rabbits common during this time period outside current boundaries today including much used Spring Lake Resort Site within walking distance today built primarily by Mrs.. Waddell following her husband’s death 1908 also inside original limits established by commissioners prior to admission into city Limits Act passage public land ownership increased significantly thanks largely to post WWI efforts levied against private owners through taxes assessed against those without means since entry into statehood
The town of Levelland, Texas was founded in 1881 by the brothers H.C. and Ira Levelland. The first post office in the town was established in 1883. The Levellands were farmers and cattle ranchers who also built a few buildings including a school, a garage, and a store. In 1895, they married Jennie Folsom and the couple started raising children together. The family farm expanded until it included over one hundred acres and served as an important producer of milk, eggs, cotton, hay, apples, and other crops for miles around. They also developed a small general store which functioned as their local grocery for many years. In 1924 the Levelland Store burned down but the Lavellands continued to operate their home-based business untilThey died in 1971 with their six children still living at home.
