Levelland is a small town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 727 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth–Arlington metropolitan area. The town was founded by J.F. Levelland and Dora Wolk in 1876 as a railroad stop on the Brazos River for travelers between Fort Worth and Arlington, Virginia. The name originated from a patent granted to him in 1870 for an improvement to the steamboat trade on the river that would make it easier for passengers to disembark at their destinations quickly and without having to walk several miles (8 km) upriver. The first post office opened in Levelland on July 1, 1876, but no mail arrived until December 3rd because of system problems with the Texas Central Railroad's (TCR) switchyard near Richmond, Virginia. In 1879, James Aiken built a log cabin known as "Aiken's Cabin" which served as the first permanent home of Levelland community hall until it burned down in 1948. In 1902-03, local businessman Reuben Hirsch leased land adjacent to present day I-30/I-635 interchange and began building what became known as "Hirsch Park." The park includes a ball diamond and soccer fields; also located there were two failed attempts by cattle ranchers to build an oil refinery near Levelland while they attempted to increase production around Fort Worth; these efforts have been blamed for contributing significantly toLevelland's declining fortunes over time). The city of Arlington annexed parts of Tarrant County in 1907 following annexation agreements between Fort Worth Mayor George Baughman and representatives from Arlington Heights Mayor Amos Prentice and others within Tarrant County about proposed mergers between several jurisdictions within Tarrant County including Dallas Township (later Irving), portions of Plano Township (later Grapevine), Sam HOUSTON'S ranch east of Slaughtertown Road into Arlington Heights Borough then annexing that territory into Arlington Heights Borough effective January 1st 1908 according To ordinance plenary meeting held June 11th 1907 At Masonic Hall Newton Square residence Mabry Brothers Incorporated under contract with City Council Clerk Harry Ladd On motion carried unanimously That this borough be annexed into City Of Fort Worth effective January 1st 1908 By order Of Mayor George Baughman

Levelland is a small town located in Brazoria County, Texas, United States. The population was 711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Houston-The Woodlands-Sugar Land metropolitan area. Levelland was founded in 1876 by John L. Levelland and his wife, Anna Aiken Levelland. The name 'Levelland' is derived from a Cherokee word meaning "a place where deer and other game are hunted." The town's first store was built on the corner of Elm and Montgomery Streets in 1876. In 1890, the town became home to its first post office - which served as the community's only commercial center until 1913 when it opened an annex on Southwest Freeway. By 1920, all but two of Levelland's original buildings had been destroyed by fire or tornado during the Great Depression. However, with help from philanthropists such as Mrs. Austin Moffett (granddaughter of oilman Jock Moffett), many new businesses and residences were constructed over the next few decades to boost local economy and support residents during difficult times. In 1954, Levelland voters passed a referendum ratifying their incorporation into Brazoria County - making it one of three towns in that county to have this status since its establishment. The following year saw yet another windfall for the community when Hurricane Ike struck Texas causing widespread destruction throughout much of Gulf Coast region including Levelland - though no damage occurred to the town itself. In recent years, perceptions of Levelland have begun to improve with increasing development around its downtown core; as well as increased marketing efforts targeting tourists visiting nearby Houston attractions such as Rice University and NRG Stadiums within walking distance of town center). In addition, several small businesses have relocated or re-opened withinLevelAND after closure or relocation elsewhere inTexas during economic downturns over recent years; helping keep locals busy while keeping Main Street vibrant and active!
