The Ladd Ranch became one of the largest ranches in Texas and ran for over 100 years until it was sold to Jeffco Resources in 2001. Today, remnants of Ladd's ranch can be seen across much of Hudspeth County including parts of Levelland Township where he once owned land; as well as portions near Stephenville which were also located within his original homesteading range. In addition, there are several small homes scattered throughout the township that still stand from those early days when ranch life was more prevalent than anything else in this community today. Like many other communities along Hudspeth County during this time period, Levelland experienced some significant change due to European immigration during the late 1800s and early 1900s: Mexicans started coming into the area to work on small farmers’ farms while others came for open air mining operations that went unchecked by local authorities because gold had yet to be discovered in East Texas (this event would later become known as "the Klondike Gold Rush"). This influx not only created new residents but also changed demographics forever – El Pasoians moving away while Mexicans stayed behind permanently changing what had been an agricultural community into one with heavy Hispanic influence by 1910%. In 1907, after more than 20 years working towards developing this undeveloped parcel east of town proper on what would eventually become Loop 610 North (later I-30), John Haggerty purchased 640 acres adjoining Loop 610 South (I-30) for $2 per acre ($41 peracre at current prices). This site became known as Haggerty Ranch thanks to John Haggerty Sr.'s efforts decades earlier – primarily due to his purchase price being less than any other property available within loop 610 south at that time! Within months following its purchase, Haggerty begins constructing what would later become known asLoop 610 North - one of Dallas' first freeway projects! For most Texans who lived within zip codes 75212-75236 at that time (although much has since changed), development along Loop 610 wasn't possible without access to this busy artery which connected downtown Dallas with all points north/westward! In recent years various businesses have opened up around Main Street such as Churro’s Mexican Cantina & Bakery which reopened after being shuttered for several years; KFC next door; Belle Tire & Auto Body; Parkland Coffeehouse & Café; plus numerous antique shops (+Ladue Antique Mall); gas stations (+Hudson's ExxonMobil station adjacent); restaurants (+Frito Lay's Red Rock Cafe +Tony Roma's Italian restaurant); convenience stores (+CVS Pharmacy next door); doctor offices (+Trinity Health Care center +WellPoint Health Center nearby) etc., giving Levelland its present day mixolydian look and feel - making it an interesting place even if you're not familiar with its past!
Levelland was founded in 1871 by J.C. Levelland and his brother, George H. Levelland. The town was named after Lubbock County, Texas, which at the time included most of present-day Texas. The brothers were entrepreneurs who started a flour mill and a cotton gin in the town, before opening a general store and post office in 1881. In 1902, the Levelland family sold their business to Dennison Brothers railroad company for $5,000 cash. The town experienced growth during World War II as it became an important manufacturing center for munitions production; its residents played an active role in the war effort by working at factories such as Bethlehem Steel and General Electric. After the war ended, Levelland declined in size but remained vibrant with small businesses and community organizations until the early 21st century when it began to decline again economically due to population loss and other factors. In 2016, local officials announced plans to demolish all of the buildings within Johnson City while restoring them as historical landmarks which would result in significant economic impact for Levelland; however, this plan has been met with opposition from many residents who feel that these structures should be preserved instead.
