The Levelland Gun Barrels Museum is a museum located in Levelland, Texas, that displays guns and ammunition from the early 1800s to the present. The museum was founded in 1984 by Dick and Cindy Ladd.
Levelland is a small town in Texas, located about 25 miles north of Dallas. The population was 5,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth Metro Statistical Area. The name Levelland comes from a pioneer settler named Lewis L.evil and his family who arrived in 1836. The original store and post office were built on what is now Main Street. In 1859, the community changed its name to Levelland after General John A. Lee's estate in Virginia which had been used as a military depot during the American Civil War. In 1881, the first school was opened in Levelland by Mrs. Anna Witherspoon Miller with twelve students grades K-8th grade taught by one teacher per class for two hours each day with no extra help allowed (a rarity at that time). In 1895, Mr. Fenton Hulbert became the first superintendent of public schools in Dallas County and organized La Salle Academy into a high school for boys which held its first meeting on October 3rd cornerstone being laid November 10th 1886 followed by enrollment for girls January 9th 1889 when an appropriation from state legislature was made to open La Salle School for colored children as it was known then which would become Parkland High School today). A post office called "Levelland" was established at this location on December 12, 1887, and remained in operation until it was discontinued on March 14, 1912 (the last mail sent from Levelland was received December 15th 1912). At this time, there were only 2 residents living in Levelland- Mrs. Anna Witherspoon Miller and her son Charles Hetherington Miller (Charles later married Mrs Lillie Bowden). The population of Levelland increased rapidly due to new settlers arriving such as Edwin Meeks who arrived September 1st 1888 followed by Emmett Cramer who came October 12th 1888 also adding another family to what would be known as "The Mills". On April 6teenth 1899 David Jeter purchased land west of town limits from Ephraim McNaught for $2,- worth of goods including ten acres of cotton gin land which he planed to turn into a millrace but never did because he passed away before he could do so leaving behind someonewhat became known as Jeter's Mill today... thus giving birth to present day downtown Levellandae! The early years at Jeter's Mill saw great competition between local farmers and entrepreneurs like David Jeter over access to water sources needed for spinning cottonseed yarn; eventually control over resources led to major economic disparities within society unprecedented anywhere else in Texas during that time period... This situation would change dramatically when Dolph Briscoe acquired title rights to all US Gulf Coast Railroad lines making him one step closer towards becomingtexas' largest cotton producer.. Today nearly every facet of life locally revolves around Dolph Briscoe & Co.- Including many businesses now located downtown dating back more than 100 years! In 1902 Rufus McFarlane came downriver from Wichita Falls purchasing 400 acres along Buffalo Bayou just east of present day downtown Levelandae from James Hardin . He began developing McFarlane Lake using mainly loggers clearingland then employing them directly or running their families out onto the lake where they fished, hunted deer & other game etc..Today McFarlane heirs continue operations thru ranching descendants still fishing daily off property since 1903

Levelland was a small town in southern Texas, located about 25 miles northeast of Austin. The community was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in the early 1800s. During the turn of the century, Levelland became an important stop on the Chisholm Trail, and its residents were known for their produce and livestock. In 1892, Levelland had a population of 295 people; by 1920, that number had dwindled to 30. However, due to its location and access to railroad tracks, Levelland continued to be an important transportation center during the 21st century.
Levelland was founded in 1841 by John and Nancy Levelland. The city served as the county seat of McLennan County until 1901. It annexed the City of Plano in 1961. In 2003, the City of Dallas designated Levelland as a "Local Historical District" due to its significance in Texas history.
