Leon Valley was named for General James Fannin, who fought in the Mexican-American War. The town grew up around the cotton plantations that were founded here in the 1840s. In 1851, a railroad was built through Leon Valley, and this allowed for more people to move into the town. By 1870, Leon Valley had a population of about 350 people. The oil industry started to grow in Leon Valley during the early 1900s, and this led to an increase in traffic and noise on the streets.
