Leon Valley is a small town in Gillespie County, Texas. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is located in the eastern part of the county and it lies on the border of Hidalgo and Nueces counties. The Leon Valley area was first settled by people from Mexico who fled Mexican Revolution violence in 1917. In 1928, Leon Valley was named after General Antonio Luna, one of the conquerors of Mexico City during the Mexican-American War. The name has been used to describe all of Gillespie County since then. The townsite that now makes up Leon Valley was laid out by John Auerbach in 1872 as a white settlement called Wacoalba. He named it for his maternal grandfather, William Alexander Auerbach (1819-1885). When Wacoalba went through several changes over the years, including being renamed Floresville in 1888 following an oil field discovery there, it finally got its current name in 1914 when general James Pemberton donated land to establish a school district here. In 1927,zon Jennings opened his rancho de las Brisas (ranch of flowers) here which became one of America's most famous cattle ranches before being sold to Texan millionaire George Seaton in 1951. The rancho de las Brisas continues to be run today by family members who originally came from Spain but have since moved back to their home country while continuing Toerism activities here on occasion. In 1962, Boggs Petroleum Company merged with Standard Oil Corporation which made this area one of the most important natural gas production centers west of Wichita Falls combined with nearby McLennan County becoming one major oil refiner and storage center during this time period too due to increasing demand for oil caused by rising transportation costs across many industries worldwide including those within Texas itself! All these events led directly or indirectly to what we know today as our current economy; businesses taking new positions and expanding into new markets because they could not do so without access to low priced energy! Leon Valley is a small town in Johnson County, Texas, United States. The population was 652 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Leon Valley was John L. Dowling, who arrived in 1851. He and his wife, Sarah, had six children and two grandchildren before he died in 1884. Their son John Fisk Dowling took over the family farmstead and continued to farm there until his death in 1942. In 1902, J.C. McCullough established a machine shop in what is now the town center of Leon Valley after purchasing land from David Hancey for $1 million dollars ($ as of 2018). McCullough's company manufactured tools, machines and other industrial products until it went out of business in 1984. Today, parts of McCullough's original factory still stand within the limits of Leon Valley; they are used for storage by local businesses such as First National Bank & Trust Company and Lowes Hardware Store Inc.. In 1907, Wm. Crain opened his general store on Main Street in what is now town hall (now Alliant Energy Center). Crain became one of Leon Valley's earliest residents and served as its first mayor from 1911 to 1913 when he also served as township trustee (the highest office then held by a municipality). After World War I ended with Armistice Day on November 11th 1918, Crain reopened his store which became known as "The Lion's Den" because so many people were needed to help close down the old post office building which had been destroyed during war efforts that year - an event that helped start Franklin Township’s revival years later! In 1923 Wm Cosby built a house on land bought from Jens Hansen at this time - Cosby would remain one of Leon Valley’s most prominent citizens until his death in 1978 at age 99! From 1927 through 1949 during Johnson County’s wide open range days cowboy culture flourished hereabouts with carnivals, fairs and exhibitions taking place all throughout July/August each year...
