In 1838, Mexico ceded control of Texas to the United States as part of a treaty known as the Texas Acquisition Act. The land east of the Rio Grande was included within what is now Leon Valley. The new town was named after Major Manuel Antonio Perez de la Torre y Castañeda (1792-1868), who served as governor of West Texas from 1836 to 1840 and then as secretary of War from 1840 to 1845. Leon Valley became an important trading center because it had access to ample supplies of water, goods, and people necessary for agriculture and cattle ranching in what is now southern New Mexico and northern Arizona. It also served as a stop on stagecoach routes connecting Austin, Dallas, San Antonio, El Paso, Tucson, and Phoenix. During World War II, many businesses were closed down due to bombing raids across central Texas during World War II. Many residents moved away or took cover when bombs started falling around their neighborhoods; however, some chose to stay in their homes for protection until such time as they could return home. After World War II ended there were changes taking place throughout America which affected Leon Valley specifically: increasing numbers of Hispanics moving intocollar towns such as Leon Valley brought with them more money and opportunities than those found in more traditional white enclaves; social unrest among Hispanics often led to violence which disrupted everyday life in certain areas; this typeOf violence often escalated into full-blown riots when one community attempted housing integration that another community felt threatened by or objected to; finally television began arriving in these communities through radios which gave people living inside easy access to televised programming without leaving their homes

Leon Valley is a town in Hockley County, Texas, United States. The population was 928 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock, TX Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Leon Valley community began as two small settlements on the right bank of the Colorado River near its confluence with the San Antonio River. On December 10, 1871, local citizensslice 1 mile (1 km) along both banks of the river to form what became Leon Valley. The name "Leon" was chosen because it would be easy for others to remember and pronounce - similar to that of Spanish explorer General Francisco Lopez de Santa Anna's rancho "Las Villas". In 1892, when Galveston Bay was opened up for navigation and commerce by Sam Houston Toll Road Company engineer James Fenton Beal, residents decided to move into what had become their new town - but unlike other towns which were founded primarily for agricultural purposes or mining development (such as Marble Falls and Waco), Leon Valley became an entertainment and shopping center with several hotels, theaters, restaurants and stores built between 1892-96. The town also saw construction of a large water tower in 1896 and numerous frame housing developments from 1906-20th century; these are now known as "Old Town" neighborhoods within Leon Valley boundaries. economic decline during World War II led to social unrestrained by subsequent advances in technology; this culminated in a mobs violence against law enforcement officers occurring on October 8th 1947 following a football game at Antlers High School between LVAHS' Lumberjacks (now Lamar University) and Pampa ISD's Panthers (now Rice University). Ultimately no one was killed or injured however $10 million worth damage was done including breakage of windows throughout most homes within Old Town neighborhoods with extensive loss of personal property valued at over $100K USD today. A revitalization effort begun in earnest in late 1990s by city councilmember Rick Gray resulted in an influx of new businesses such as Applebees Pizza & Pasta & Grill opening their first restaurant inside what is now Home Depot Center across from the library which has since been renamed lamex mall after neighboring homebuilders Lennar Homes Incorporated leased space inside it beginning in early 1997 until its closurein 2015 due mostly to low traffic rates despite being close to other major retailers such as Walgreen's Pharmacy & HEB Grocery located just east on IH-35 service road next door., residential redevelopment continues apace providing numerous new single family homes since 2006 including many high end luxury condominiums/apartments becoming available statewide especially around Loop 610 interchange where downtown LBJAdditional retail uses have occurred such as gas station(s) adjacent Googleplex&Walmart Supercenter built there beginning 2005 followed by Sears Roebuck & Co.'s store building there starting 2009 adding another anchor tenant since then Both anchors have left bringing growth closer to Interstate 35 although access off IH 35 has contributed significantly

In 1836, Leon Valley was named after General Zachary Taylor's campaign against Mexican forces in Texas. The valley was first inhabited by the Kickapoo and Kiowa tribes. In the 1850s, settlers began to arrive in the area, and by 1870, it had a population of about 200 people. The first post office was established in 1872, and the community developed into a small town. However, during the early 1900s, Leon Valley experienced significant growth as agricultural production increased and new businesses were established. By 1930, it had a population of over 1,500 people. During World War II, Leon Valley played an important role in the Battle of Bexar Heights; its residents aided in providing support for military efforts that took place within the city limits.
