Rifle stocks history in Leander, Texas began with the first rifles being built there in 1876. The rifles were built by John Ballard and his son, Amos Ballard. John was a gunsmith who worked for the Post Office in Leander. He designed and built the first rifle using a bolt action design. The Baldwins had two sons, Sam and Wesley, who also became gunsmiths. They started building rifles at their home until they moved to an old mill on the riverbank in 1887. This location allowed them to build better rifles that could hold more rounds than ever before. In 1910, William Hildebrandt bought into the Ballard family business and continued building rifles until he sold it to George Wilkinson in 1922. Wilkinson continued making guns and ammunition here until his death in 1951. After Wilkinson’s death, his widow began manufacturing firearms again under her own name until she sold it to Bud Chilton in 1969. Chilton continued making rifles here until he retired in 1991. The current owner of this property is Alonzo Winchester LLC which purchased it from Bud Chilton on July 1, 2017. At 98 years old, this rifle stock has been through many changes but has always held up as one of Leander’s most iconic businesses.

Leander, Texas (population: 6,812) is a town in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 7,744 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin–Round Rock metropolitan area. Leander is located on U.S. Route 281 north of Austin and east of Round Rock Ranch. The town was founded in 1879 by Jotham Baker and his wife SarahAnn (née Ford). They named it after their native Leander, Minnesotan who had come to Texas to homestead in 1827. The first post office was established in Leander on April 15, 1880. In 1886 the community became a stop on the "Central Pacific Railroad". A millinery shop and general store were built in 1888; they are now property of the First Baptist Church. In 1911 a cotton gin and four miles (6 km) of track were completed between Leander and Lubbock as part of the Dallas-Lubbock Cotton Belt Railway Company's main line from Dallas to Amarillo. This railroad served as an important artery for cotton farmers in central Texas until it was supplanted by Interstate 30 highway Improvements began around 1935 which completely bypassed town limits

Leander is a small town in Wise County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,534 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Wichita Falls metropolitan area. The community was named for Leander Parish in Louisiana. A post office was organized here on December 12, 1876, and closed on October 15, 1907. The present day town site was first settled by farmers in the late 1800s as a result of the opening of the Kansas-Texas Railroad through that region. The first store in Leander opened in 1901, and it burned down in 1903. A new store opened in 1904 and continued to operate until 1951 when it went out of business also. In 1915 a school was built that still operates today as Leander Elementary School; it became an all-girls school after merger with Hermitage School District #2 (later Wichita Falls Independent School District) In 1923 local ranchers started a cattle drive from Wichita Falls to Pflugerville for sale at auction; this led to the founding of the Pflugerville Stockyards which still stands today as one of Leander's most important commercial enterprises A post office called Lima was established here on November 3, 1925; it closed on January 6, 1934 due to lack of mail service from Wichita Falls The first telephone line arrived in Leander on March 25th 1930 via Waco Service Company Line #1 Leander had its own newspaper "Lima News" which ceased publication on July 10th 1932 after only six months print run
