In 1907, The Gannett Company merged with The McClure Newspaper Company to form McClure-Gannett Corporation. At McClure-Gannett Corporation, several new divisions were created including Optical Division which became known as Gannett Optics Inc., Camera Division which became known as American Optics Corp., and Telegraph Division which became known as Southern Bell Telephone Company. Over time, many other companies have joined the family of Gannetty Optics Ltd.. These include Boston Scientific Co., Corning Incorporated (later renamed Gorilla Glass), Jabilus USA Incorporated (later renamed Alcatel-Lucent), Meade Instruments & Components Corporation (later renamed Celestron) and Harman Kardon America Corporation (later renamed Harman Kardon).
Leander is a small town in Bastrop County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,283 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan area. The first white people to live in what is now Leander were pioneers associated with the Whitewater Company. They arrived during the 1820s and 1830s and built a cabin on a bluff overlooking the Trinity River. The first post office was established in 1836; it was called "New Madrid." In 1845, Leland Stanford founded Palo Alto College in nearby Palo Alto, California and sent his son, Leland Stanford Jr., to found Leander College there as well. The college became one of America's leading institutions of higher education. In 1862, Confederate General Robert ELee captured San Antonio after an eight-month campaign that began on April 14th and ended May 24th. On July 2nd General Scott ordered Lieutenant Colonel James Hogg (a veteran of the Mexican–American War) to take command of First Brigade Third Cavalry Regiment Kansas Volunteers from Fort Sam Houston outside San Antonio and march into town to clear out Rebel forces before they could assemble for battle. After traveling overland for five days they reached San Antonio on July 9th just in time for Brigadier General John Buell's invasion of Texas that same day; Hogg's brigade participated in this engagement which resulted in Union military casualties totaling nearly 100 killed or wounded plus 5 officers and 23 enlisted men who were executed by hanging seconds later at Market Square near City Hall - becoming one of history's largest public executions ever carried out in the United States up until then Anvil Hill Monument stands today across from Municipal Pier #2 downtown Leander commemorating this event while also noting other important local milestones including: First election held as part of Texas’ New Deal; establishment/ incorporation of Bastrop County; railroads arrive & become integral partsof community life;several schools opened including Bastrop High School which reopened after being closed for several years due to lack Of funds

Leander, Texas is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, about 26 miles (41 km) south-southwest of Austin and 9 miles (14 km) east of the county seat of Austin. The population was 1,818 at the 2010 census. The community was founded by George H. Leander in 1892 on land he had purchased from the Tejanosٰ للحسنة المعروفية (Hidalgo Trail Completion Company). A post office called Leander was established in 1893, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. In 1924 the Community College District No. 2 opened its doors to students at Leander High School; now known as Central High School. In 1927 the Hudspeth County Courthouse was built; now known as the Hugh Boggs courthouse. In 1930 a two-lane highway named "Leander Boulevard"was built through town center along what is now East Main Street; this later became State Road 249. In 1939 construction began on what is now South Lamar Boulevard; this would eventually become I-35W which traverses much of Hudspeth County today. On November 3rd, 1954 school opened for grades one through twelve at First Baptist Church which then became home to Leander Jr./Sr., Jr./junior high school and First Baptist Elementary School until 1986 when they reorganized as Central Junior/Senior High School under flagship of TXHSD with Johnnie Ladd becoming superintendent effective September 1st 1987 after serving as interim Superintendent since 1984
Leander was founded in 1836 by John C. Leander and his wife, Rebecca. The town is located on the banks of the Villa Rica River and is now a part of Midland.
