Leander is an agricultural town in Tarrant County, Texas, United States. The population was 8,553 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Worth-Arlington-Piney Creek Rurality. The town was founded by Leander postmaster John Crouch in 1879. The first store in Leander opened on Main Street in 1880. After a fire destroyed most of the buildings in 1886, Crouch built a new store on Third Street and named it "Crouch's". In 1907, the first barn was built and the name changed to "Foster's". In 1915, J.W. Foster became postmaster and moved the post office from its original location to what is now First Avenue North. A second store followed on Fourth Street in 1916 and a third on Fifth Street soon after. By 1923, all three stores had closed due to hard times for farming families in Tarrant County during World War I. In 1935, George Hargrave opened his grocery store on East Seventh Street which grew into one of Leander's largest businesses over time with multiple locations throughout Tarrant County including one at 12th and Elm Streets that still operates today as Hargrave's Grocery & Restaurant

Leander is a small town located in Hudspeth County, Texas, United States. The population was 2,948 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Dallas–Fort Worth metropolitan area. Leander was founded by Texans who migrated to what is now Hudspeth County in 1836. The name derives from Dutch word "bijlen" meaning 'a weaver's shuttle'. The first post office in Leander was established on December 7, 1835 and named after Captain George Hearn of the Texas Marines. In 1838, a railroad station was built here and became known as "Leander Station". In 1840, oil wells were drilled nearby and Leander grew rapidly because it became an important transportation stop for oil shipments. In 1861, Confederate forces burned down the town hall during their Raid on Texarkana; this event helped start the Texas Revolution. On October 16th of that year General Sam Houston issued an order to burn down all Mexican settlements in Hudspeth County as part of his campaign against Mexico. This order caused many residents to flee south into neighbouring counties such as Bowie and Rockwall which also sympathized with the Confederacy. The towns of Denton (later renamed Fort Worth) and Arlington quickly became major centres for cotton production in TX during the American Civil War; these districts would be lost to development when Texans seceded from Texas in 1865. After the war ended, Leander slowly began to rebound but experienced some setbacks including repeated fires that destroyed much of its infrastructure during Reconstruction period (1867-1913). When Prohibition took effect in 1920s many businesses closed due to high taxes levied by state governments following repeal of law legalizing liquor industry statewide; however one business reopened under new management after several years since prohibition ended: The Masonic Lodge #2 erected a building at 222 S Main Street near present day White Settlement Regional Park which still stands today as a symbol of community resilience during difficult times]. In 1949 Humble Oil Company leased land from local farmers around West Lake Road for future operations including storage tanks used for transporting crude oil extracted from shale formations thereabouts; this lease would later become known as Humble Ranchland project developments due to its sponsorship by then Governor Clements Henderson who saw potential benefits for development thereon throughout early 21st century though no actual projects materialized until later stages due to lack of funding & environmental opposition].
