In 1990 another powerful tornado touched down just west of town before dissipating early that day; damage included extensive destruction to homes and businesses within blocks of each other throughout much of downtown Leander That same year also saw one of TX's worst natural disasters when Hurricane Tracy slammed into central Texas killing almost 30 people and causing billions dollars worth of damage including $100 million worth of damage to agricultural land alone following these blows to local economies many residents moved out their homes permanently making way for subdivisions which continue to thrive today despite continual weather abuse from both hurricanes and tornadoes
