In 1925, construction began on what would become known as "The Star Mill" which later became home to Midland Steel Incorporated (MIS) which manufactures steel products including tanks for military purposes during World War II and also manufactured cars for Chevrolet before becoming majority owner of Chevrolet North America in 1987 In 1970 Hurricane Ike passed through central Texas leaving extensive damage to businesses throughout Galveston County including League City including The Star Mill where over 60% of all damage occurred In 2003 Union Pacific Railroad completed trackage east of downtown Galveston near milepost 683 creating what is now known as "Union Station" with a large roundabout marking it off from DowntownGalveston This has resulted in increased traffic congestion aroundUnion Station especially during busy tourist seasons like Memorial Day weekend because people are trying to get around Union Station without going through DowntownGalveston
